View Full Version : Scratches
croberts12 04-25-2006, 07:25 PM My car has been keyed twice in the last two months or so. I have a carbon fiber hood and not-so-luckily for me this dumbass put a big 'ol scratch across it. I have been trying to figure out the best way to get it out and I had some meguires scratch-X and found a thread on it and it worked O.k. I am browsing langka products a bit and want to know what would be the best. I also a really deep scratch on the top of the trunk on my car and could use some help on that. Could I also use touch up paint with some langka stuff? Basically I am freaking out and I need emotional support and some help to get this out.
edit* maybe for the hood I could use this clear coat repair???

I also have a random orbital buffer made by porter cable and I have a couple wax's including scratch X and stuff, if it helps anyone, and the car is a 95 sshwartz 325i ///Mknockoff
croberts12 04-26-2006, 05:54 PM Comeon people. I know you know more than this. Help a brotha out.
Taiko 04-26-2006, 06:09 PM I am by no means a car repair expert, but if you use a touch up kit on the trunk, and once it's dried and cured, follow with a sand and polish, the repair will be clean. I don't know how well that repair kit will work on the CF, as I know those hoods can be a bit tempremental in terms of clear coat.
Landerholm 04-27-2006, 04:44 PM I know nothing about carbon fiber. As far as the trunk, if you can feel it with your fingernail langka is a great option. You fill in the scratch with touchup paint and use the blob eliminator to smooth the surface flush with the car.
croberts12 04-27-2006, 09:09 PM Thanks I am going to get this stuff figured out.
croberts12 04-27-2006, 09:22 PM I dont want to jack anyone elses thread, so I will post this question in my own thread, but are these the pads everyone is talking about for the pc?

Is the yellow one the one I need to get out swirls and not ginormous scratches out?

Those pads are one option. I've never used them or heard much about them so I can't comment.
I actually plan on picking up a couple of these as I have heard positive things:

Not a problem! Let us know how everything goes.
croberts12 04-27-2006, 11:08 PM ***EDIT*** Nevermind I able to get it off with some other wrenches kicking around my garage but it was a tight fit.
Last question and I am going to bed.
I have the stock pad that porter cable gives you with the PC on my buffer and I have been using it with microfiber bonnets from checkerautoparts. Since I have been doing this for the last 7 months I cant find the little wrench they give you to change out the pads.
Does anyone have one of these that they dont need for some odd reason or know where I can get out? I am not sure if I have the other flat pad holder thing that skrews into the PC, also. My dad ordered something that highly resembles what I think I lost off sonus, but I dont know if it will fit because I cant get this pad off. So I might need one of those too. Gracias my fellow bf.cers and good night.

I know that some online stores (properautocare.com I know for sure) carry PC accessories (the wrench, spare counter weights, etc). Try checking those places if you can't find your original one.
croberts12 04-28-2006, 04:37 PM This is my shopping kart at autogeek.net.
tell me if there is anything that needs to be changed. Gracias.
croberts12 04-28-2006, 05:04 PM I also want to get some langka stuff. But I am very iffy on the right process of things to do. If anyone has done it or has any good info on the right way to do it for maximum results post up.
*edit* I am getting the impression all I need is the blob eliminator. But It keeps talking about putting clear coat over the scratch. Where do I get clear coat? Or is that the same as just polishing it and waxing it.
picus 04-28-2006, 05:29 PM Clear coat is just clear paint, you can get a clear coat paint pen at your dealer or in most auto parts stores. It just helps to make the touchup blend better when all is said and done. And yes, all you need is the eliminator. I've used Langka many times and while I find it doesn't remove the blobs perfectly, it is much better than leaving the blob and very easy to use.
Also, your cart looks good - do you have a wax/sealant already that you're going to use when you're done polishing?
DECOY 04-28-2006, 11:47 PM Touch up paint never looks good unless you're a pro. Try to get a respectable detail shop to spot buff it out. If the scratch is too deep you may have to get touch up paint and do the whole wet sanding and then compounding. As far as the CF hood... again, it all depends on how deep the scratch is. You may be able to get someone to buff it out for you. I compounded a CF hood once with minor scratches and it came up beautifully.
Try Autopia.org for some detailing advice.

Yeah I have a couple of waxes. I think I am going to try the turtle wax ICE stuff. It looks pretty neat.
I am hoping with all I have ordered I can get the scratches out and if I cant I will wetsand or do the langka thing or do you wetsand then do the langka thing? Or do you do the langka thing then wetsand?
picus 05-04-2006, 08:43 AM You either wetsand or Langka. I'd try langka first - wetsanding looks great if it's done right, but there it's definitely higher risk than langka.
croberts12 05-04-2006, 09:42 PM I am in the middle of using the langka. And I was thinking to wetsand on the CF hood since I dont think I a big schwartz line across it is going to looks so hawt. Any tips before I embark on the hood?
