I own a manual 95 325is with a dinan cold air intake ireland engineering cat back exhaust and removed the clutch fan (these are just the engine mods). my buddy loves saabs and owns an 01 9-3 2.0 turbo bone stock. i drove it to see what its got and it pulls good but it handles like shit. The other night we went on I87 and raced from 40 to 120mph 5 times. every time it was dead even every gear. i told him after words i would kill him from zero to sixty. finally the other night we got the chance after coming back from the gym. we lined up at the light and i smoked him until like 40, he started to pull on me and at about 50 he was a half a car ahead, at 60 i cought up and started to pass him but he insists he hit the brakes. we need witnesses in both cars next time but still a fun time for all.
and if it wasnt for me his car probobally wouldnt even run. the other day before we raced he caled me saying it wouldnt run. he was on the exit ramp from the highway. he said he herd a pop noise after he downshifted. i found his intake popped right off his throddle body. i tightned it down and saved the day. he must have down shifted at like 6000rpm!

Yah dude....Saabs pull hard in 3rd gear.....Does your friend have the high output turbo model?
I race my friend in his 9-3 2.0t HOT a lot and its a real challenge from a 3rd gear roll(by real challenge i mean i win by 2 cars). But saabs have peaky acceleration at certain places.
My girlfriend actually has an 05 saab 9-3 arc convertible aero, and those things which make 250 hp are real fun to race against......its pretty even i would say when we race......i win by about 1 car to 1.5 cars to 100......I wouldn't expect anything less from a Turbo cahrged 6 though.

i'm pretty sure they're 4bangers... unless the 2.0t and 2.0T have different engines (i thought difference was due to programming).

I had a 9-3 with the HOT.
Torque steer like a mofo, but it handles like a ragtop cavalier (gee, I wonder why...)

Yah dude the 2.0t's are 4 bangers....but the 9-3 aeros are 6's(2.8 liter turbocharged v-6 to be exact....) http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/content/11410739001558604426/

lol, I work on Saabs everyday except weekends and I definately agree with you.
I bought one Saab in my life from work which was 92' 9000 Aero, tried to turn it into fun daily driver, and month later, I blew my diff., not only gearbox got damaged but my upper motor mount bracket broke and rear motor mount bracket broke with it, which caused motor to tilt forward and damage my radiator/oil cooler. When diff. blew while cruising, lol, it felt like somebody threw grenade under the car, :).
First Gen turbo 9000s can be serious threats with some little tweaking/tuning you can make them run low13's with stock motor/drivetrain/turbo!
