does anyone have that site that shows schumacher's cornering strategy that allows him to carry more speed through turns than other drivers? i remember there was a good site that had a diagram and everything.

I'd like to see that site too...I remember something on TV about how he uses left foot braking and the throttle at the same time to change weight distribution/transitioning during cornering...I'd love to see this broken down...:)

Many would beg to differ..

IMHO, I can't see a clear cut driver to name "THE best", but MSC is definatly ONE of the best.

This race, he was outclassed(lack of better words) by Alonso. Alonso was definatly faster, but due to the 'hard-to-pass' nature of this course, there just wasn't a good/safe place to pass for Alonso. (case in point, the reversal of the roles from last year's race) On a normal course, I believe that Alonso would have passed MSC.

The risk assosiated with passing MSC would have been too great for a 2 points difference. The gap is still 15 points from Alonso back to MSC. Without making any 'detrimental' mistakes, MSC was able to keep Alonso behind him.

Yeah OMG those two announcers today for CBS were incredibly horrendous. They seriously have no idea how to properly call a race....hell, I can't believe I am saying this, but even the guys that call the NASCAR races do a better job than the two on CBS did today...

My favorite part of the annoncers' comments was when they kept refering to the Australian race "last week" the entire race. I must have missed that one :D

Yeah, the race was pretty good. Nice to see a reversal of the race last year, when Michael was stuck behind Alonso for the last few laps. Its definitely a tough track to pass on. You could see today that Alonso was definitely running faster laps until he came up on Michael. I think even one of the Red Bull cars was hanging with them prior to their last pit stop.

How many races is CBS covering this year?

CAUTION SPOILER CONTENT BELOW (if you are waiting for the Speed version).

A) Michael drove wonderfully today. Did anyone watch the telemtry of his pedal work in corners during stint 2? He was definitely quickly tipping the throttle under braking,,,, either fighting a push or just balancing the car.
Alonso on the other hand was all brake, then able to just mat it.
MS drove a flawless race,,, just wore the kid down until he made some mistakes. It was a very exciting race to watch, my heart was in my throat.

B) What was up with the godd@mn commercials. They missed SO much racing.

C) CBS coverage is beyond HORRIBLE, just embarrasing for a major US network. They missed I'd estimate over 30 minutes of racing. Real racing with intense battles.
The commentators SUCK,,, they didnt even cover Parc Ferme, the trophy presentations or the whole of the interviews.
CBS coveraage is just SUCK, SUCK, SUCK, SUCK, SUCK, SUCK.
Man I just HATE when they get races. Speed guys must just be dying watching that coverage.

It was a great race though. Ferrari looks to be getting some legs back,,, MS really had some straightline speed on the Renault,,, and maybe Bridgestone is finally stepping up to the plate.

How about Button's pit stop,,, wow.

Cheers

yes i love when they do the comparisons of on/off the throttle and brake between drivers!

this season i told myself maybe the commentators would be better, but who was i kidding? i wanted to scream, every time that Sheheen guy talks its like he's yelling into the mic, jeeeeeeeesus. the camera pans were pathetically short too.

i would bet that the speed guys were covering the race live.

oh and CBS gets three more races this year; spain, monaco and britain, ALL IN A ROW. christ that is going to be 3x the stupidity.

I was surprized that alonso didn't blow the engine or had more off-tracks, as he had most of the racing without fresh air for cooling the engine or the brakes, or even aerodynamics.
His tires were toast at the end.

The "on CBS now" led me to believe that it would be a discussion of the race as it was being aired on CBS, not that someone would lookup the results and post them here before the broadcast was done.

MS had tire problems after his pitstop. he also had another problem with the car, but they wouldnt say what. The interviews are posted on the F1 website.

BTW, CBS sucks. they didnt even air the post race conference. I had to sit there and read it all online. total suck.

Thankfully they're only airing four races again so we'll only have to listen to the awful announcers three more times.

Good race despite the lack of passing and props definitely need to go to MS. The way alonso and renault are responding to every challenge however I think at least the driver's championship is already over. Even Kimi seemed a little out of it today.

The puzzling thing about the CBS coverage is that I like Derek Daly on the SWC coverage, AND he's a former F1 driver, so his resume is unquestionable. But for some reason he turns into a babbling maroon when he's covering F1 for CBS. :conf

Sheheen is unquestionably painful to listen to. Screeches worse than Rick DeBruhl a couple years ago, and knows less to boot. :bash

And for all you "MS is the best by far" folks -- why was Alonso able to run nose to tail with him all race long while oh-by-the-way carrying more fuel through much of it? ;)

Sorry, but I just HAD to add one more post about those dumb ass, loud mouth, NASCAR-like, used-car salesmen commentators. What a bunch of ass wipes!.

Alonso did the best anyone could do on that track, Imola is almost impossible to pass on and MS does not make it any easier. Following him and mantaining pace and pressure @ 2/10ths of a second was just incredible, until he ran wide and saw there was really no need to risk it.
Just goes to show, Alonso is not a champion by chance.

Finally SPEED has this race on today. I have to say that their coverage - with Matchet, Varsha, Hobbs and Windsor - is awesome. Even better that ITVs coverage from the UK (which is shown on TSN here in Canada). I kicked myself for missing it last week because it was on CBS. But lucky for me I was so busy I didn't know the outcome.

When Button's lollypop man lifted too early?!?!? HOLY CRAP!!

Great race.

Steve Matchett and Bob Varsha do a great job on speed in my own opinion.

Steve's insight to the sport through his years at Benetton always provide great views and ideas into the sport.

a little bit off topic: Anyone picked up on Matt Varsha? The kid seems to be making a name for himself in Formula Mazda

FYI, if you watch the telemetry, it seems that schumi almost always gives little blurps on the throttle under braking/downshifting...
