View Full Version : GB Request: VANOS Solenoid *BimmerZone*

After spending some time following this thread :

http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?p=6390402&posted=1#post6390402

And realizing that Pelican just jumped their price on Solenoids $40, I think there is definitely a market for GB on Vanos Solenoids. I don't know if this is feasbile, but there are so many people who now think they're solenoids are bad, a dozen or so of these could probably be sold.

Any takers post up, see what we can get going :buttrock

I thought the vanos unit was hundreds of dollars? is this the part within the unit that goes bad?

if so, I'll grab one for safe keeping.

*edit, read the original thread - now I understand the deal. I'm still in for one for a '95 325i.

The entire unit unit is hundreds of dollars, the solenoid is like 120 or so...

Well yeah but I like the idea of replacing and fixing a whole bunch of crap all at once at the install day so that when 90% of it proves totally worthless and a waste of money, the other 10% will convince me that I spent my money well. :P

I figured this would happen...we just need a vendor to step up I guess.

If anyone here knows any of the board vendors, I guess we should try to get in touch with them. We certainly have substantial interest in them.

I'm new to the whole GB Request thing, I just saw the need on the boards and thought I might try to get it going...let's try to make it happen! :buttrock

I have an email in to Circle BMW. I will send one to Pacific BMW as well. These two dealers used to get the best prices on "Dealer only" parts. What we need to do is cut out the middle man and find a rep to get these directly from the manufacturer. Anyone have ideas of how to find a rep? I'm going to ask around.

I don't know if your car has the same style Vanos or part number as the rest of the E36'rs, or even if the M's are all the same between themselves and E36 cars.

This is an item that needs to be replaced, especially up around 80k+ , that's why we are trying to get a vendor to offer them at a good discount since they could probably sell a bunch :redspot

Damn where are the vendors? I wish there was more competetion for these stupid things.

Honestly I think that's why pelican raised the price so much over their price book's original suggested price + profit %, simply cause none of the other bimmer parts sites carry it.

I talked to a guy from Bimmerzone, he's looking into it right now.

The best deal out there, atleast for '95 M's is RealOEM at $125 + core.

I think if we could get them for around $100-120 without having to send our cores back, it would be a good deal in comparison to what's out there now.

Everyone who's on this thread...please note that Pelican's price is about $170 for one of these, and Real OEM requires that you return your core, so their $125 price + shipping actually isnt any better of a deal.

I think this is pretty fair, as this is a part that is generally not stocked by the usual supporting vendor.

We need to get a thread with the part numbers for all the cars that need them. If you have one of the following vehicles, please post your correct part number for the rest of us. And feel free to add a car not listed:

E36 M3- '95
E36 M3- '96+
E36- All other 3 series

well, what's the verdict? How many people did this part actually help?

From the people I've talked to, and myself now included...it hasn't shown much difference. Before Bimmerzone accepted our GB, I had ordered one from Pelican, and in the meantime my car was at the shop so I had my mechanic yank mine out to test/clean. He said it was perfect, and after the cleaning the car did run *a little* better, but it could be my brain.

I got the new one, installed it, and there was no difference.

But if anyone is hesitant, and doesn't want to drop $135 for a new one just yet, I'll sell the one my mechanic cleaned and tested, since I know it works, and you can see for yourself for a third the cost.

I'm not trying to steal Bimmerzone's thunder, but I did start this thread... :redspot
