Quick specs: 1994 E34 530i w/auto trans mileage 59000.

After changing a flat tire yesterday on the highway, I thought I droped it into S4 to accellerate to merge with traffic. As I mashed the gas and got up to about 60, I had lifted my foot off the gas and thought I was shifting into A D, but instead shifted into neutral.

I then shifted back into A D and kept driving. Traffic then slowed to about 50 until I reached my destination. This morning I'm driving and I notice that I am running in 3th gear at high speeds. I got off the highway, stopped and dropped it into S4, tried to shift up into 4th, No go.

So I tried shifting manually (MD) and it will shift up into 5th gear. So after a while I tried A D again and it will not shift into 4th. Later in the day it started shifting fine, then the transmission get a little crazy. Sometimes it will not shift into 4th. Sometime it will shift all the way to 4th.

I have had no issues, glitches or any indications with the transmission prior to this happening.

Any ideas on this issue or fixes?
