View Full Version : e36 stock headunit/stock alarm oddities

I have two oddities I wonder if anyone can shed some light on...

First -
The stock HK headunit in my 96 m3 - the illumination on all the buttons won't come on immediately, as in, it takes about 10-15 minutes after the rest of the dash illumination. The display and illumination for the volume knob operate normally from the start, however. All other functionality seems normal. No modification other than 5 months of climate controlled storage.

Second -
The stock alarm is only intermittently working - as in, when I go to lock, I get the "your door, hood, or trunk is open, stupid, and I won't arm" chirp. I know both doors are, in fact, closed, as the windows do their sealing routine, and the hood and trunk switches both appear to be closing as well. Does the alarm use only these 4 sensors to determine whether to arm or not? Do the alarm and window regulator both use the same switch (in the latch) for the doors? Any ideas? Again, no modification other than storage.

I've not found much helpful on a search, so any insight would be appreciated. Hopefully I've included all the relevant info. If anyone needs any more to help diagnose, let me know.

Thanks much
