I just got mine and am quite happy with it. I could only afford the 116i. We have killer taxes here for imports.

i'm sorry you live in portugal and cannot drive cars that can keep up with livestock, but i meant no disrespect to you by my previous statement.

that being said, that's fucking slow.

Again, you are right.

We have no M5, no M6, no porches, no ferraris...

Oh wait, we do have, lots of them :confused

So I don't see where that is comming from.

Also yeah, IMO the 120d is not "fucking slow", especially for it's segment. Has +13hp, +140Nm and 0-60 in less 0,5sec than the 120i.

of course not, you drive a 318 diesel.

i'm sure the 116 feels like a veyron

When you guys over there get your hands on some real diesel fuel, give me a call.

It's funny how you start the thread, then people post opinions, then you start bashing. Is there any 1 series that you like? Or were you just starting an argument?

i made a joke, you got pissy and rolled your eyes at me, and i pointed out that you drive a hatchback powered by a golf cart motor.

i apologize if i came across as being rude.

but i was.

At 115hp yes the 116i seems under powered. But believe me, the car is far better than it seems on paper spec sheets. Despite our 100kph speed limits, we were makin it fly at 170kph 4k rpm. It's a sports car pretending to be a family compact. I'm happy. Some of you won't be, but I know i am.

Do I?... Since when do I have a hatchback? :confused
The "t" on "tdS" stands for turbo, hot hatchback.

Also, I suggest when you make a joke, add some kind of emoticon.

I thought this thread was about 1 series, but if you want the stats on my engine, let me know and I'll post them.

well it's one helluva golfcart engine at 5th gear and 4000rpms, you'll fly like a golf ball :buttrock catch me if you can! :)

If you are talking to me, mine revs to 5.200, not just to 4.000.

Rainmanred

talking to everyone. I purposely don't rev up to 5k. I didn't really buy the 116i to race, I just want to arrive where i'm going. I'm not even changing anything on the car, I'm quite happy with the standard rims with rim covers, what's important are the runflats. I'm not interested in the sport kits, I like the basic look of the 116 as is, standard skirt, with black trims at the bumpers and black door handles.

metale
05-04-2006, 06:23 AM
Actually, I do like the stock "one" look.

It was a bit strange to see at first, but I like it a lot. That "line" at the bottom of the doors gives it some of the Z4 (bangle) style.

Kenny, are you planning on doing anything with the 130i?
I know of a few guys who have done things such as GruppeM intakes, short shifters and LSD installs already.

Of course, with the kind of traffic in Manila, everyone will be satisfied with a 1.6L engine. Actually, almost everyone is happy, not satisfied, but happy with 1.6L as some base vehicles there (not BMWs) used to come in at only 1.3L. Saves a lot of gas while providing enough power to zip in and out of traffic.

Yeah, 115hp seems underpowered these days. But during the 70s and 80s, 115hp was a lot. 115hp used to power up midsized Mercedes and racing Corollas and Lancers during those days.

Hell, my small 325i has a bigger engine than some of the luxury full-size Toyota Crowns over there.

The car market was so pathetic in the Philippines up to the mid-to-late 90s. During the 80s, you can only buy Mitsubishi and Nissan. It is good to see that quite a good variety of cars are back in there now. Actually, quite a good mix of European and American varieties, some that we don't see here in the US, like the 1-Series. It was there in Manila where I first saw the 1-Series in person and I remember the engine making a sweeeeeet sound despite its 1.6L.

Rainmanred
05-09-2006, 05:14 AM
Yup exactly, 115hp is enough power. But don't forget the fact that the 1 series has a smaller lighter body, so 115hp is a lot of power. You can always of course go for a 118i 120i or 130i. But the 116i IS A BMW. Bang for the buck.

Hi all,

I am new to this forum but I do have a 130i M. It is the dogs dangleys. Exhaust note on it is ferocious. Only probs I have are if I get frisky and floor it I have to consentrate on not swallowing my tongue and conversely if I stand on the anchors I have to squint to stop my eye balls from dropping on to my cheeks. It is one urgent lump of metal!

I read some review about the 130i that said that with the TC off, they had to be very carefull about the throttle or it would get sideways instantly.

Where are you from in portugal? My family lives in Gouxaria/Alcanena, between Santarem and Torres Novas.
