View Full Version : What's the best way to clean dried bird sh!t... Dinan330ic 10-22-2002, 03:22 PM Hi, I've got a piece of shit on my trunk and I won't want my paint to be scratched. How can I safely remove it??? 98M3_4 10-22-2002, 08:51 PM Try softening it up first using a quick detailing spray, like the Meguiar's or Mothers ones, and then carefully remove before you try to dry and buff. You could also go with a wash mitt and soap, very carefully. These have worked for me with pretty good results with either no or minimal surface scratches. They come out with simple polishing, etc. joe325i 10-22-2002, 08:58 PM meguires quik detailer spray and terry cloth towels... the detail spray is awsome!! i use it after everyrain... i havnt washed my car in almost 2 months (water bans) and it looks like i washed it yesterday. Dinan330ic 10-23-2002, 12:24 AM Thanks guys, gotta try that before the bird shit bonds with the paint cuz it looks like it already. hahha PaulSoo217 10-23-2002, 12:29 AM or just soak it up w/ water or oil, then high pressure the shit out. Stylin 10-23-2002, 02:49 AM I live off the Meguiars detailer! Keep a bottle in the trunk and use it to wipe off any bird crap immediately! joe325i 10-23-2002, 05:56 AM im with stylin.. i have a duffle bag in my trunk full of terry cloth towels, windex, quik detailer, and the obsorber!! so im set if it rains or i get shat on!! mmmoser 10-23-2002, 12:52 PM  I can tell you from several experiences that you want to get this off as quick as possible. I'm not sure if bird shit is more acidic species by species, but I had a nasty turd laid on my car over one night/early morning and when I came out around 9AM I got outmy Girot's detailing spray and a soft cloth and it came right off. Problem was it, also etched not only through the wax but left an etch mark on the paint. This was an 88 6 series so it was not clear coated, but I still see it over a year later in the right light. ///M3ryder NY 10-27-2002, 11:21 PM Originally posted by mmmoser  I can tell you from several experiences that you want to get this off as quick as possible. The most effective method if you have access is a strong spray of water to get the crud off, then some QD. This happened to me yesterday, I must have gotten hit late afternoon and not realized it. Parked the car, and saw it later that night in my garage... That stuff was so caked on, it was very hard to get off. Now I have a quarter sized spot of light scratches that I'll have to go after with some Fine-cut compound and my PC. Very acidic shit will also etch the clearcoat for sure....
