I was on the 55 freeway headed south in the middle of the afternoon a couple of days ago when I saw a last generation ('02 or so) mustang gt convertable. I have had horrible luck getting anyone to even try and race me, but I was really bored and decided to see if I could goad this guy into something. I got up right next to him (he was going about 75) and dropped it into 3rd (so he could hear my exhaust) looked over with a smile then proceeded to speed up and slow down next to him... :D He got the point and mashed it... evidently thinking he would dust me. He didn't. We went from about 70 to 110 and he pulled about 1/4 of a car, then we came up on traffic and slowed down. He didn't look too happy. When traffic cleared, I tried to get him to go again but he kinda didn't look at me, and wouldn't try again. Oh well. :(

Later that day, I lined up at a light behind an SVT with a cobra licence plate frame and a modded exhaust (but was it really a cobra?) and I reved it up. He heard it and took off at the green. Being behind him I had to change lanes and then catch up about 2 cls. I pulled him in and was door to door with him by 60 mph... then he looks over... shuts it down, and gives up? wtf? :dunno He wouldn't try again at the next light... (no cops around that I could tell)

On a side note everyone and their mom wants to race my 740il. :werd:

What year was the Cobra you raced? An 03/04 Cobra would absolutely destroy our 540i, a 99/01 Cobra would be an interesting race, as would the SN95 body style.

I believe the 99/01 Cobra has in the range of 320 horsepower, and incredibly long gearing, so I think it would be closer than expected with a 540i/6 on the highway.

A SN95 body style has just a smidge more than 300 horsepower, I believe, and once again should be quite a good matchup on the highway.

I could be wrong, as I don't really follow Mustangs, but from what I understand, they are not geared aggressively for high speeds, with the exception of the 03/04 Cobra.

I don't know anything about mustangs... but I just know it was the body style just before the most recent incarnation.

Yea, it might have been a cobra poser... there is a lot of poser stuff around here in North O.C. I saw a 2005 (or 06?) toyota corolla with Lexus logos (in place of the toyota ones) today... :confused :shifty :rolleyes

Whats your mods on each of your BMW's...because a stock 01 Cobra is yes 320hp with incredible 300+lbs of torque & easily run mid 13s, 03/04 Cobra SVT cobra = supercharged is 400hp supercharged with incredible amount of torque & easily run high 12s & low 13s all day & only car i know that'll even be able to run 03/04 cobra but i highly doubt will still not win is E46 m3 or e39 m5...or any of the new e60 m5's.

It's all about the gearing man...see the 540's gearing makes up for the 500lb weight difference and lower hp...gears = magic :rolleyes

Lol, from what you guys are saying the guy was definately a poser then. Sounds like theres no way I'm would take a Cobra SVT.
