I just picked up a 840Ci as a project car.
It has high miles (220k) due to the original owner using it for a long commute car. The motor and tranny were replaced, a few years ago, so it has 90k on the drivetrain.

I would like to lower it asap....anyone have some advice on the best/most cost effective spring kit?

*I still have the Vogtland springs I purchased for my 95 540/6
Anyone know if these might work on the 840? (just hoping...)

Nice :) Welcome to the club.

The current offerings for lowering an 8 are rather limited. The spring and strut set are unique as far as anyone has found out.

The current offerings are
850CSi springs from BMW about 3/4" front and 1/2" rear

Dinan springs are in about the same range perhaps 1/4" more--be aware that there are 2 different rear spring rates available-the heavy ones have been compared to F150 springs (Csi set)

H&R 1 1/4" front and 1" rear drop. The rear springs are softer than stock.

Bilstien shocks and struts appear to be the only aftermarket choice. Other manufacturers are not interested in short production runs.

The main gathering place of US owners is on Roadfly. We are mostly a helpul group and have a lot of information we are trying to get compiled here http://www.e31faq.com/

Please register the car at http://www.8-fest.com/ this ties directly into the registry.

I just picked up a 840Ci as a project car.

Congratulations. Nice looking car. Good thing the engine has been replaced. The pre 96 models had the Nikasil engines. Mostly they are reliable but there was some recalls due to High Sulfer in the gasoline issue.

I echo Terry's comment on the Lowering. I went to Dinan Springs (Too Hard), then to H&R (Good but rear springs felt too soft), Now I have the CSi springs with Bilstein Sport Shocks. This is the optimum setting I have experienced so far. There are some ventures going into compatible Koni setup...but yet to produce any.

Congrats...once again.
