View Full Version : SRT4 vs E46 M3??
dinans3m3 04-15-2006, 10:03 AM I was on my way home last night when i saw a lambo orange colored Dodge with a huge FMIC. The thing actually sounded aggressive. Anyway cutting to the shorttalk he pulled up next to an e46 M3. The M had an exhaust and possibly an intake. You could hear some sort of intake while he was revving the shit out of his car. So the light hits green, BOOM the Dodge was out, ahead of the M3 by at least 2 car and gaining. The M had a good takeoff, without any jerking. Due take in mind it did rain that evening but the ground was fairly dry. Still are the supped up Dodge STR4 that fast?
Charisma 04-15-2006, 10:19 AM Modded SRT4's are fast as shit. My friend has a mopar stage 3 running 12.8 @ 108.
95bimm3r 04-15-2006, 10:22 AM e36 m's can take them unless they are modded. stock for stock depends on driver. i taken one until 125 then we were neck to neck and i cut off.
LittleMT 04-15-2006, 12:49 PM Nah... they are slow slugs!
http://www.hepcatradio.com/delete/11-12.jpg
Schneller Bayer 04-15-2006, 01:09 PM As soon as you invest 500 bucks into that car, it'lll take e36 m3's w/o too many problems.
There is no doubt it can be made fast. Fact is any car can be made fast it is all a how much cash question. I've run 5 or 6 SRT-4's Beat all but 1, and the 1 that beat me was leaving me like I wasn't moving atleast a good 4 to 5 cars before I shift to 4th.
I think these types of races are more ego than anything. I think after I turbo the ///M, I'll prolly be trying to race Z06's and P-cars. Just to see how I stack up. No doubt this SRT driver was doing the same.
thanks for the story.
addnon 04-15-2006, 01:40 PM yeah srt4s are fast. I raced one in my stock 328i, and it wasnt close at all.
sleepy740 04-15-2006, 01:54 PM http://www.hepcatradio.com/delete/11-12.jpg
that is amazing...
yeah srt4s are fast. I raced one in my stock 328i, and it wasnt close at all.
thats because your car is slow...
themadhatter 04-15-2006, 02:04 PM srt4 is no slouch. it's the new age version of the dsm, a few bucks and it'll terrorize anything on the road.
nismo skyline 04-15-2006, 02:22 PM yea those srt4s are no slouch when modded, great budget racer platform.
resisTm3 04-15-2006, 02:42 PM just think of how many more people would have them / demand if they were rwd + maybe some more cosmetic changes
anyways, yes they can be made very fast... whether it be sticking w mopar stages.. or upgrading turbo to .50 trim or whatever
CowboyTurbo 04-15-2006, 03:19 PM how about racing one on a road with turns? Why pick a fight with the Hulk when you can fight Bruce Banner? You'd stand a better chance...
resisTm3 04-15-2006, 03:23 PM he wasn't the one racing it
Alpha /// 04-15-2006, 04:14 PM ya, not gonna lie, i've been walked by one before.
me in my 99 m3 and my friend in his 99 camaro ss raced an srt4 w/ 3 passengers and running 17 psi with other mods. he walked us both....
i take the lightly modded and stock ones though.
it's a good race, anyone will agree
dinans3m3 04-15-2006, 04:20 PM how about racing one on a road with turns? Why pick a fight with the Hulk when you can fight Bruce Banner? You'd stand a better chance...
i wasnt involved im just posting what i saw. Im sure that car can hold its own on turns as well.
dinans3m3 04-15-2006, 04:21 PM by doing research, it seems these guys running the gt35r and gt40s are making some impressive power for a 4cylinder.
darkness95m3 04-15-2006, 05:06 PM The Bimmer was NOT Racing...
;)
dinans3m3 04-15-2006, 05:15 PM oh sure he was. And he kept trying to catch up. I was right there. Come on, just face it some of these new cars can make tons of power for the price we pay for an intake. ;)
chr328is 04-15-2006, 08:26 PM I really hate how (super) fast that car is, but you gotta give credit where its due. Damn you srt4, damn you to hell.
dinans3m3 04-15-2006, 09:04 PM I really hate how (super) fast that car is, but you gotta give credit where its due. Damn you srt4, damn you to hell.
you can always slap a turbo or SC in your car and then they will be damning you. :)
themadhatter 04-15-2006, 09:08 PM you can always slap a turbo or SC in your car and then they will be damning you. :)
for the price of a used e36. :(

damn econobox neons.....

AMDdude 04-15-2006, 09:14 PM So? I'd still take a stock e46 m3 over a super modded srt4 any day
themadhatter 04-15-2006, 09:15 PM So? I'd still take a stock e46 m3 over a super modded srt4 any day
I think you're missing the point.
LittleMT 04-15-2006, 09:15 PM So? I'd still take a stock e46 m3 over a super modded srt4 any day
Oh yeah???
My rear power windows will never break!
Nor will my cruise control... so there!
AutoRotate 04-15-2006, 09:16 PM Modded SRT4's are fast as shit. My friend has a mopar stage 3 running 12.8 @ 108.
That's pretty quick, but it's not that fast. Stage 3 is rated at what, 350 whp? That includes the upgraded turbo?
SergeK 04-15-2006, 09:19 PM there is a video on southfloridaracing.com of an SRT4 putting trains on a kenne belle cobra thats close to 400rwhp.
It was an amazing sight.
AMDdude 04-15-2006, 09:20 PM Oh yeah???

ROFL, that's why we love em and hate em
bbelt88 04-15-2006, 09:27 PM Stage 3 srt's are more than enough for an e46 m3.
with some help stage 3's can run low 11's: http://www.dragtimes.com/Dodge--Neon-SRT-4-Drag-Racing.html
AMDdude 04-15-2006, 09:34 PM Why stop with the srt4?....

yea, I got that part~ I was referring to the driver of the e46 in my previous post.
Im sure that car can hold its own on turns as well. against an e46 M? now that would be something to see :eyecrazy
OneUltimate 04-16-2006, 12:45 AM Lucy owns you
I have friends who have the stcok turbo running 12.5's on street tires.
And if you search online - look for ACR SRT4 vs Comp E46 M3 in MPH magazine...you guys might be surprised.
dinans3m3 04-16-2006, 12:55 AM Oh yeah???

so thats the trick to making them little buggers fast. :)
curbsideprophet 04-16-2006, 01:04 AM Why stop with the srt4?....

what's that ring around the tail? cloud?
chr328is 04-16-2006, 01:25 AM what's that ring around the tail? cloud?
I think that is the plane breaking the sound barrier, a sonic boom?
Steiner 04-16-2006, 01:57 AM And if you search online - look for ACR SRT4 vs Comp E46 M3 in MPH magazine...you guys might be surprised.
I had a red ACR SRT-4 follow me through the foothills one night in my Evo. I know it's easier to follow then lead, but he did a helluva lot better than I expected. Those things can definately carve up the twisties. I was really impressed having previously owned an '04 SRT-4 myself. The limited edition ACR trim is a totally different animal.
E36pusher 04-16-2006, 11:02 AM This story bothers me... I cant believe these neons are that fast uggghhh.
m3boost 04-16-2006, 12:49 PM I .
LittleMT 04-16-2006, 05:36 PM I was still in my break in period (1100 miles) when a ACR srt4 challenged me a third thru forth gear roll. Let just say that by time the I let off (110mph) he was 3 bus lengths behind and was starting to pull hard. I'm still running all of my old AA stage 2.5 turbo with the exception of the GT35R and was running 10 psi for that run. Soon I'll install the TECIIIr, injectors....etc and get it dyno tuned.
GT35R eh? Nice choice...
my SRT equipped with the GT35R netted me this dyno plot around 1 month ago..

:eyecrazy Damn! You should be in the 10's! What are you running?
Steiner 04-16-2006, 05:56 PM Lucy's car is insane. I remember when she joined the SRT forums and the morons in the now defunct "war stories" section were giving her crap about this and that. They did everythin they could to get under her skin. She was real nice to everyone through it all. She didn't get mad. All she said is that she has big plans for he little Neon. Look at that sartee4 now!
ChaseBimmer 04-16-2006, 05:59 PM Yea I'm about to pick up an SRT with 392whp/390wtq on 91 pump gas this weekend :) He ran 11.70's at 120.. I can't freakin wait! Its gonna be a huge jump from a 13.5@105 M3 ;)
LittleMT 04-16-2006, 06:03 PM :eyecrazy Damn! You should be in the 10's! What are you running?
My track recently opened and I have yet to take the car... We are doing some stuff to the suspension also.....
The car was a track regular last year when it was 490hp....
Here are a few runs at the 490hp power level and a DA of a whopping 7500ft, the car would have ran much stronger at Sea level..

LittleMT 04-16-2006, 06:28 PM Thats awesome , hopefully you can break into the 10's which I'm sure you will!
at the time of those runs, my car was the 2nd highest hp car in the Country and the 2nd highest trapping car...... we were one of the few, that went 11.... Now, many are faster, which caused me to seek more power...
I expect to trap well into the 130's....... We shall see.....
KritonD 04-16-2006, 07:15 PM GT35R eh? Nice choice...

I went to a dyno with a couple of friends that have srt4s and it just happened to be srt4 dyno day. One of them had a gt35r and dynoed 456 rwhp.
That's a nice curve (dyno;) ). I'm hoping for 600 rwhp but I'm sure I can get more out of this turbo. But I want to do it with under 20 psi. What psi are you running?
dinans3m3 04-16-2006, 07:30 PM im suprised you dont twist up the chassis with that kind of power. I may be wrong but with that kind of tq twisting power, something needs severe reinforcing on that car.

At 17psi the car made 417hp....
the 636 came at 35psi......

Honey, if I twist it I'll throw it away...
its a neon for gosh sakes....
*disposable econobox*!!!
BLKM3 04-16-2006, 10:47 PM Ehhh its still a neon. I don't care how fast it is. If I want straightline power I will get a C6 Z06.
sausrigging 04-16-2006, 11:22 PM Lucy, what has been done to your engine to hold 35psi?
redline effect 04-16-2006, 11:34 PM I'd still take my e36 over a neon.

:lol :lol :lol you make me laugh. When are you planning on running the "econobox" down the strip again with 35psi?
that is amazing...
i didn't think so...I've seen early 90's accords do the same thing bone stock :lol
The biggest problem I have with the SRT-4 isn't that it's a neon...it's FWD
LittleMT 04-17-2006, 01:19 AM Lucy, what has been done to your engine to hold 35psi?
It has a bigger bore and higher compression pistons that are forged, as well as forged rods with stronger rod bolts. custom main bearings. It also has a big valve fully ported/polished race head, Darrell Cox head studs and head gaskets.....
LittleMT 04-17-2006, 01:22 AM I'd still take my e36 over a neon.
and I don't blame you one bit!
e36 is sweetness!

I am doing somethings to the suspension..... I am not sure, the car is a blast on the street....
It will see some track time somewhere in the future...
RedNeckNinja 04-20-2006, 11:52 AM Reverse Kill Hmmm. Im thinking the the dodge guy spent as much money modding his car as the purchase price to win that race.
bimmerpwr 04-20-2006, 02:51 PM There was a black one following me for a bit yesterday on rt50 as I was wondering if he would try to run or not, but he never took it...:(
600 whp on FWD must be a sight!!! :D

Did it have yellow fogs? It might have been me coming back from fair oaks hospital .. though I don't remember seeing any cars worth challenging, hahaa

Dunno, he was following me a bit, so I downshifted to 3rd and dissapeared into the night. By the time he caught up, I was already done and ready to make my turn. Was that you? :lol
srt4ipp 04-20-2006, 09:15 PM haha, good one .. i know my limits, sc'S54 for the win

On a side note, I saw a gorgeous SRT on NJ turnpike about 3 weeks ago. I don't know how I will sound when I say this, but I never thought I would see a *gorgeous* SRT4. Heck, I think my car is cool but not gorgeous for that matter. It had body kits that looked just right, fatter tires all around, and FMIC. It had NJ tag. Wished I had a camera...
D1AllTrac 04-21-2006, 12:50 AM they may be fast, but not fast enough to outrun all that ugly:evil2
seriously though, i would expect no less from a 2.4l turbo 4. i mean they should be fast. my friend had one, stage 2 mopar i think but he wrecked it.
reminds me of some show i saw where they were at some pro autoX and it had the neon srt4's in the same class as 330Ci's and Integra Type R's. That would make me think they handle well, but one of the SRT4 drivers said something along the lines of "we brought a knife to a gun fight, and still managed to shoot ourselves in the foot" :shifty :stickoutt

Posts like this are a waste of band width. How good of a friend can he be if you don't know whether or not he wrecked his car? The "I would expect no less..." comment is also a waste of space. Sounds like you got smoked by a sartee4 son and STILL have the red-ass about it. :rolleyes
desertfx41 04-21-2006, 12:19 PM Sounds like you got smoked by a sartee4 son and STILL have the red-ass about it. :rolleyes[/quote]
I don't know about all that, but eh whatever. As far as the SRT-4 goes, anyone who is making 600plus HP out of anything deserves some recognition for the work they put into that car. Last time I went to the track, it was an SRT-4 fest, there were tons of them at California Speedway. None of them ran 11's I can tell you that. Most of them were in the low 13's. So it may be a nasty neon, but they gave it a 2.4 L with a 4G63 heritage bound for more boost and big numbers. :buttrock Good luck with a 10 second pass.
Steiner 04-21-2006, 03:45 PM Yeah I'm just busting his balls. Hate the car? That's fine and I understand the disdain from some. All that power in a FWD econobox is not for everybody. However, what's not even debatable is that the 2.4L in the SRT-4 Neon is a great engine. That's a fact. Among other things, it has an awesome V8-like stroke, closed deck and forged internals. It's an iron block torque monster reminiscent of the old 4G63 DSM days (minus the crankwalk of course). I used to have one. It was a helluva car. I had ZERO problems in 25k+ hard, modified miles. It put down just under 290whp with the Mopar stage 2 kit and a 3" TBE. If that engine ever found its way into a Miata-ish RWD roadster, well God help us all.
HartgeM3Power 04-22-2006, 01:11 AM I will admit that an srt-4 shit on me pretty badly from a freeway roll. i have a few more mods under the hood now :evil2 , but unfortunately i doubt it is enough to keep up with that thing :( ...
knightryder 04-22-2006, 01:20 AM beware of our srt-4 we kill in 3rd and 4th just like the bimmers do...but they are fwd which can be a weakness especially since we don;t have the luxury of asc-t or dsc.....but i will repeat what i read earlier our power windows will never break nor will our cruise control.
l3it3r 04-22-2006, 04:44 PM I like it for the fun factor. It's just not a nice car.. if you can see past that fact and see the car for what it is, then you're set. Otherwise, I'm tired of the car and can't wait to get either an E46M3 or the new Challenger (if they ever announce a build date... )
funfgang 04-23-2006, 09:51 AM i hate going against cars like that...either their snobby ricer kids who havnt done anything and think they rule the world...or they have like 400 HP and fcuk the crap out of me...haha
LittleMT 04-23-2006, 09:55 AM i hate going against cars like that...either their snobby ricer kids who havnt done anything and think they rule the world...or they have like 400 HP and fcuk the crap out of me...haha
Its a no win situation... because if you win.. big wow! you just beat a neooooooooon... brag about that to your friends..
and if you lose... crap, you just lost to a neon with a body kit.... :nono
you are better off just pointing and laughing....:flipa
crabcakesyum 04-23-2006, 10:25 AM i beat an srt4 with my m3 actually i beat 3 so far and never lost, this guy had a bigger turbo and everything, before i wrecked my m3 3 weeks ago i was tearin everything up, had a little over 400hp
but yeah they are fast for stock anything under 15 second quarter mile is fast...
funfgang 04-23-2006, 05:11 PM ya...i raced one from about 0-80 and the srt 4 sounded like a fuckn HURRICANE...my ears hurt sooooo bad...and he got me by maybe 1-2cls at the end...haha...however...he DEF hit somthing and from like 40-80 he just like...ROCKET accelled...
streetrcrm3 04-23-2006, 05:47 PM fwd must be fun with 636 hp....;)
fourside 04-23-2006, 08:26 PM Reverse Kill Hmmm. Im thinking the the dodge guy spent as much money modding his car as the purchase price to win that race.
No way. An E46 M3 is pretty much even with a SRT-4 stock vs stock. With $3k in an SRT-4 you can run low 12's - high 11's.
knightryder 04-23-2006, 10:03 PM well i hope 600+ hp is fun in any car... but like i said in 3rd and 4th the srt hauls....due to the fact it can stay spooled but props to the m3 drivers who actually do something with their high revving powerplant..
ADAM///M 04-24-2006, 03:46 AM Honey, if I twist it I'll throw it away...
its a neon for gosh sakes....
*disposable econobox*!!!
Sounds like an old story I heard about 10 years ago where a couple of guys rented a neon and threw on a 250 HP nitrous kit and took it to the drag strip. Now mind you this was a regular neon, not the SRT-4. The guys managed an 11 second run before they blew the motor...they actually leaned it out and TRIED to blow the motor. Good tim3s. :D
