:help Ahh these coilovers are ruining my car. Last time we spoke someone mentionned a way to fix the design flaw in the unit. I remeber it involved cutting. Has anybody came up with any better ideas?

Turns out one front koni will no longer adjust and the other one is leaking oil :rolleyes It feels like my car bottoms out on every little bump in the road, it's the worst ride ever (althought on a perfect road it does feel great) especially seeing my city is ranked #1 worst potholes in Canada :mad What do you guys think I should do.

Oh ya hoe do i get rid of this clicking noise also driving me crazy. I think it's coming from the rear of the car as well as the front.

i went the cutting route and it helped immensely. Don't know of any other way to fix it as that is the only way to give the front the amount of suspension travel needed.

So how much do i cut off of the sleeve?
Did you have any problems with your konis?

I had serious issues before I cut them. I also ended up purchasing "shortened race valved konis" from G.C. to replace the regular yellows I had in there. Give G.C. a call. They sent some information on how to fix the problem. I also had to switch to a longer front spring (i also went with stiffer) and use 15mm spacers in the front.

Also it wasn't the sleeve that was cut. It was the strut housing itself. Had to cut it apart and I think we took out about an inch and a half... then re-welded it back together.

Try to get ahold of Don Feen... donfeen@ground-control.com

My set-up still isn't perfect but I'm getting there.

i was considering getting the custom GC springs but i havent heard of these problems. ive got a 535 w/ yellow konis and h&r now, what would you guys suggest as far as the ground control spring rate

i would reccommend you talk to the boys at ground control and make sure you have an idea of the kind of labor and work it will take to get this kit to work correctly on our cars. even though my suspension isn't completely dialed in it does handle extremely well and i am very happy with it... even though it has cost me an arm and a leg to get it close to right.

what spring rate, camber degree and level of drop are you running?

E34's do not react well to lack of travel. I am about to replace my Dinan/Bilstein with Koni/Eibach. Many M5 owners with H&R and Bilstein are not pleased and experience quite a bit of bottoming. Moreover, if you go real low, even with Ground Control, you should get some spacers to return the suspension arm to near stock angle to reduce bump steer (between the bottom of the strut and suspension arm). As for coilovers, although I track my car regularly, an E34 is NOT ideal for the track and it is my daily driver. I actually do okay for such a tank on track. Bottom line, for a 3800lb car that is 15 years old it is still amazing even with a standard aftermarket suspension.

don't know an exact figure but my car is very low. It is currently sitting about a half inch lower than the pic in my sig. I am running about -2.5 degrees of camber and i am running 750lb springs in the front... about to bump from ~400lb springs in the rear to something heavier.

In my early car days I had a Datsun 510. We would actually cut the strut and use a 240Z shock which was shorter to lower the car and maintain some travel. Sounds like you guys are talking about the same thing in a way. Someone used to fabricate those spacers for E24's, E30's and E34's I mentioned but not longer. I am sure anyone with a CNC machine could make them.

Sounds very similar to what you did with the datsun... except i bought the shortened koni strut insert from ground control.
