Thanks to all of you who organized and ran the autox Saturday. Despite the weather, you guys put together a fun course and a well organized event. Great job!

Sorry, no www.TeamWTF.org pics from this one. We don't own one of those underwater cameras.

It was a blast and that course ended up pretty challenging for me. I had some trouble fitting my E36 through a couple of places, and I only had one clean run.

It was a ton of fun sliding my car around in my first WET autoX.

Thanks again to everyone who toughed it out; I was definitely freezing while hugging one of the poles of the tent during all of heat 2.

If you went wider on some of the gates, you would have had more room. I think some of the gates were angled so going out further would put you at a better angle through them.

I definintely made a few of mistakes, but I was hitting cones in the easiest places. I can't complain because I did feel pretty good about 2 of my runs despite hitting some cones.

There were definitely some slow areas that you could positively fly thorough, but it was a bit too tight of a course - some of those elements will be revisited, but with a more open layout. Because of the rain and the curbs, nobody wans to take chances.

Glad that everyone kept it safe and there were no incidents. Dunno who the white M3 driver I rode with in the second heat was (#209 I think?) but he did a heckova good job listening to my couple of suggestions on how to go faster. :buttrock

Not to mention it was virtually impossible to reset punted cones since the chalk marks didn't stay on the ground long. A migrating slalom would have made BIG differences in times.

The strangest and most consistent mistake I saw (I worked the skidpad by the container) was in the chicane just past the skid pad. People would very very carefully creep around the wrong side of the pointer cone. Three cars in a row did this in the first half of the 3rd heat!

I actually mentioned that when I first walked the course. When you approached that area, the pointer cones (at first glance) made it look like you should be going between the wrong cones/gates.

That section was weird... especially for those that didn't walk the course. from a distance, the pointer cone did point you the wrong way, but if you setup properly, the pointer pointed you the right way. Anyway, great course as always; thanks!

Yes, it was a fun run...thanks to everyone for participating. This was the first time this year we had the car out-Black Integra- and it was a great session for shaking out the car.

NCC Bowie Autox Excuses:

1. I never autox'd in the rain
2. Certain parts of the course were too tight
3. I made the mistake of switching to r-comps this morning
4. I had John V as a co-pilot ;) Kidding, he was actually very helpful
5. The pointer cone confused me on "that" part of the course

The gates right before you cross the concrete islands for the second time. There were two pointer cones. When you looked at them from from a certain angle at a distance it might point you in the wrong direction. At the wrong angle it looked like it was one gate with two pointer cones rather than separate gates. Of course, this really only happened if you were way off the normal line/didn't walk the course. I'm usually pretty lost, that's why I noticed it. :embarrasm

I don't think I'll be pre-running anytime soon. I have to watch a bunch of cars run and walk it a couple times before I can learn the course. :(

Here is what was intended. In the future, if I use this exact course again (unlikely) I will eliminate the cones with the red marks near them or play around with some walls to break it up visually.

Ideally, those two elements would have been connected in a more fluid manner, but I didn't feel comfortable opening things up with the rain.

The problem was having two pointer cones in the same area. When coming in from the other direction your eyes would pick them up and think you should approach from the wrong direction. An extra cone making the area too small for a car would probably have worked better than the second pointer cone. I really wouldn't worry about it since this is the first time I've ever seen a situation like that.
