Brought 7 to Autobahn for Inspection 1 at $380 on CPO car. The service tech said in 4 hours I could pick it up. Well the valve cover, the power steering, and the torque seal was leaking. So $50 extra, all should be fixed. A week later and several excuses of parts that needed to be ordered, I get a call to pick up the car. Do so. Go out of town for a week and leave the car in the garage. Saturday morning going to lunch on a spring day put it in Sport. Funny sound and rough feel. Pull over to put it in park, no go. No neutral, no reverse, no nothing, but dash says sport 4th gear. Call Fort Worth Autobahn and explain as my foot holds the brake and can not get out of the car. Drive directly there and tell them to give me a loaner immediately. Two minutes later we were off to lunch in a dirty X5, as he says on Monday you should be good to go.

On Monday get a call, service needs to order part, will be done Tuesday morning. Tuesday afternoon the service guy calls and says the car works fine and the work is done, BUT as the tech was test driving a lady rear ended it as he sat at a light.

I said "That is funny, so when can I pick up the car". The service guy says " I wish I was joking". Then I say "This is bull shit, first you screw up a service, then wreck the car?" He says you can come look at the damage any time.

Took some pics and got an estimate from GTI that fixed my Porsche and an Audi. Some car guys said I should inquire about a Reduction in Value Compensation. I did. State Farm initially said no problem then said I was required to supply the value reduction for them to verify.

What do you guys think the loss of value would be today for a '01 740i with 56k and a clean car fax compared to one with a bad car fax?

I'm not familiar with Reduction in Value Compensation. How does it work?

My 325i sustained over $8K in damages on the first day my wife took it to work, yet it shows a clean CarFax....I can't believe it. I have heard that BMW does not support CarFax, but not sure if that is just another 'urban legend'

I suppose the bottom line would be: What would you feel if you were buying this car and saw a CarFax report which showed the vehicle had been rear ended at some time in its life. In today's world, a similar vehicle with that kind of mileage would go for around $28 - $33K....and sellers are reluctant to lower prices as they know there is a tremendous market for such cars.

The woman's insurance should cover repairs as she apparently was at fault.
Again, unsure as to how Texas handles these cases. State Farm will fix your car, then go after the woman's insurance for that amount. Should not be a burden on your insurance.

The attitude of the BMW dealership seems a bit too cavalier to me as well. Their insurance will cover any suit you might bring against them. I would think that you should contact a 'good' lawyer and find out what your options would be in this case. Your property was damaged while it was in the care of another, and you are a 'victim' in this case.

I thought with the brain trust in this forum, people could post a rough estimate. Yes these cars are rare, especially when you are looking for a sport with the 16:9
nav
. Seems like only the last few months of '01 had the options I wanted.

But, regardless, I got a good deal on mine with CPO, but if it had a ding on carfax
, how much would the value drop?

I would buy my 7 after looking at it and knowing it had CPO. If the car fax said wreck, I think I would have offered at least $2k less.

Opinions?
