View Full Version : Wheel help
ColoRoadster 04-06-2006, 07:40 PM OK, so Hibdon tires in the crossroads mall totally scuffed my front right wheel up. I dropped it off to be sent to Wheel Tech and refinished. Now it gets back missing the "///M" emblem and has these HUGE drips of clearcoat coming down the side. Now I wont have a car for the Dyno day since it has no spare. Does anyone have a wheel or two I can use to atleast be able to drive to the Dyno day? Any help is appreciated. If I can't pull it off I'll just wait for the Tulsa Dyno day
BTW: To add insult to injury the jackass at wheel tech told me I should go buy a new emblem. I promptly told him I wasn't going to and it needed to show up with an emblem
iflytii 04-06-2006, 08:10 PM What size (offset) do you need?
ColoRoadster 04-06-2006, 08:27 PM I'm really not sure. I dont have the car here at the house or I'd measure it myself
WeiBCoupeE36 04-06-2006, 08:47 PM you should take ur wheel to Mirror Finish on i 40 and meridian(north of i 40 a couple blocks on the right). they do an excellent job. owners name is Mike Lindsay

I think its called Wheel Connection now.
They have a porsche on a sign.
They trued my wheels and did a great job.
TechnoM3Girl 04-07-2006, 01:30 AM does anyone know how much they charge for refinish?
Patrick 04-07-2006, 01:36 AM They told me about $75 per wheel. They said that BBS has a funky finish and they have to do the whole wheel to get it to look right because they cant duplicate the BBS finish. So you might be cheaper.
JedzE36/5 04-07-2006, 01:41 AM quoted me $75 per wheel. they do a great job BUT they changed their name to Wheel Tech. which is the same place Erik's wheels were sent.
iflytii 04-07-2006, 09:25 AM Mirror Finish or Wheel Connection (they had 2 different signs when I went) did some euro weaves for me a few years ago. They got them straight but the finish was absolute crap! They didn't strip the prior finish (several coats of misc finish), simply painting over the prior runs, chips and silicone. That's right, the prior owner had used silicone to glue the center caps on and Mirror Finish just painted over it! Now keep in mind they charged me $125 per wheel (repair and re-finish) and after 3 returned trips I finally acceped what I still consider a half-ass job on the finish.
The repair work they did was very good, it was the finish that sucked so I be carefull taking them anything in which a "good" finish was expected. ...And it's not just me, there are others that got the same results as I.
Anyway, I have some wheels with Auto-x tires mounted if you need to get to/from the Dyno on Saturday. They are 17x8.5 - et40
ColoRoadster 04-07-2006, 09:41 AM That would help me out a ton. I'll give you a call today and try and pick them up if that's allright. Shouldn't need to do much, just need something to get me to and from the Dyno day
sxevegan 04-07-2006, 09:46 AM this is a little off topic, but the hobbey shop on tinker has a bead blaster that we can use. For anyone getting wheels refinished it might be a good idea to bead blast it first before you take them somewhere to get refinished.
ColoRoadster 04-07-2006, 09:51 AM That's a pretty good idea actually, but I'm not sure how fine of a finish it leaves. Depends on the size of the beads I think.
sxevegan 04-07-2006, 09:55 AM I'm not sure if it would help but i have my spare contour for my car. It is 17x7.5 with a 225/45 michelin pilot.
TechnoM3Girl 04-07-2006, 10:25 AM what does the bead thing do? does anyone have any suggestions on a place to refinish rims? i have one contour that looks like poop and i want to just fix it for now until i decide to get new ones :)
speedster 04-08-2006, 12:31 PM i have sport rims, and 18 in evos, well i only have 3 evos
jmitro 04-09-2006, 12:33 AM i have my LTW wheels at Wheel Connection right now getting straightened, trued, and refinished. cost about $150-175 per wheel, but Alan seems to know what he's doing. they should be ready next week and i'll post my impressions.
ColoRoadster....complain about the refinish, and demand they get it right.
