"Cheap" is a relative term.

Looks like $24-27,000. Of course that is basically pure speculation.

In the UK, the prices range from £16,000 ($28,000) for the 116i to £26,500 ($46,500) for the 130i M sport.

My friends at Harloff BMW here say they will be between 20-$30K

umm.. for 47k you can get a E60 no?

that's what I don't like about the One series..

it's very expensive, and not the most practical car.

I'd say the 07 Golf probably beats it..

I was under the impression it was going to be a $25k car, to compete with the likes of the Audi A3, VW GTI, Mini Cooper S, Saab 9-2x, Mazda3 2.3, Subaru WRX, etc. You know, small but fast hatchbacks.

seems like they would have to sell between 25k-35k to avoid cannibalizing sales from either mini or the 3 series

Right but it still doesn't change the fact that it is a BMW, and you are paying for BMW quality and the name. And if they do a ZHP style opiton for the 130 it will probably give the E46 M3 a run for its money.

I am guessing the price should be somewhere between 26k and 34k or there abouts. I can not wait for it to hit the dealers so that I can go test drive one.

Yes, but I think an Audi, Saab, Mini, etc hold a similar "prestige" and "quality" reputation to BMW. I could see maybe a $1000 increase over those listed, but it won't be night and day IMO.

What the hell are you thinking. Saab no longer has the prestige that it once had at some point in its life.:shifty

Maybe it's not where it's been in the past, but to most people, Saab is an upscale european brand.

Well here in Australia a nicely fitted 130i will set you back $70,000AUD on road. That is compared to a basic 330i that costs just shy of $100,000AUD on road. With the GOLF R32 looking to be about the same money as the 130i, and considering that it is a whole $20,000-30,000 cheaper than the next 3.0L BMW up, you are getting a fair bit for your money.

$30,000 for the 330i buys you a bit of extra foot space in the rear seats and slightly larger boot. Only travel with 2 people in the 130i though and the rear seats can be popped down to carry half a car's worth of luggage. So it depends on your needs. If you want a BMW over a BMW engine then get a 320i because you will get the most for your money. Want a BMW engine then get a 130i as the only thing which will stand in your way is the M3 and M5. To put it into perspective you could have 2 brand new 130is for the cost of 1 M3 and 3 130is for the cost of 1 M5.

MSRP will be much lower here than that. Direct conversion doesn't always apply. Expect a 130 sport at just above 35K.

They will not sell the 130 for that low. Its an M. Deal with it.

They will sell the 116 and the 120d at cheap enough prices to compete with audi and vw, but they will still be more expensive than audi or vw.

According to forbes BMW is the number 5 most valuable brand name in the world. No other car manufacturer was in the top 10.

I had a choice between getting a Ford Focus sport hatchback at about US$20.5k or a BMW 116i at about US$30k. I'm not a rich man but i went for the 116i because it's a bmw. Believe me, it's a head turner, even drivers in higher BMW models stop and look. Of course I don't know if they're admiring or laughing :)

if I can get a 130 for under 30K. I'll get one as my next car, but I'm thinking that will be a stretch.
