View Full Version : Anyone Run Hoosier A6 Yet? megatron 04-05-2006, 11:05 PM Thoughts? Particularly in comparison to A3S05 and V710. Thanks! magnetic1 04-05-2006, 11:10 PM The wife has an A4, but I havent mounted Hoosiers on it yet.... :devillook ChewToy 04-15-2006, 06:12 PM I should know something next weekend :) http://gallery.502streetscene.net/data/500/medium/P1010048.JPG mikeo 04-16-2006, 11:33 AM ChewToy, What wheel size and offset and tire size? GSBMW325is 04-16-2006, 11:44 AM We had an SM E36 yesterday at Wendover on them, fresh from the UPS guy's truck. He was damn FAST once they were scrubbed in. He nearly beat a fleet of F125 karts. He felt the V710 puts power down a little better, but the A6 was amazing. Edit: I should add he was on 285/30-18's all around. Made me seriously consider the 245-40-17 in spite of the price. I'm still holding out hope Kumho makes the V710 in that size. Also, I didn't check, but I think the local fast Super Stock Z06 guy had the A3S06 as well judging by his times... I'm mostly concerned about how long before they heat cycle out. The 710's were enough to take the Deven's Tour win midway through the season last year. I only switched out before Nationals. The differences between the two sound like how it used to be between the brands back in 99 or so. Kumho launched/breaked better, Hoosier cornered better. Anyway, I hope he makes it to Nationals this year. He'd surprise a lot of SM competitors. -Mike ChewToy 04-16-2006, 01:49 PM ChewToy, What wheel size and offset and tire size?17x9 SSRs with 45 et wrapped in 245/40/17 Hoosier A6s. The A3S06 is very fast, but the V710 is fast and more predictable in his opinion. He might change depending on what the Hoosier's lifespan turns out to be... Also, he thinks he might need to add some spring rate to adjust to the way the Hoosier works. ChewToy 04-23-2006, 11:39 PM Love the new hoosiers. We had 146 racers today, and I was 2nd fastest fendered time of day with a 34.100 (2nd to a SM2 Z06 who ran a 34.006) :D 7th on pax and beat the 2nd place SM car by 1.105 seconds (should mention he was on new v710s)... With SEVERE calf cramps due to dehydration.. while racing on course! Talk about a distraction.... but at the end of the day.. these tires hook up like a mother. Maybe worth mentioning I beat a certain Orange (1st place SS) Lotus Elise by .538.. some of you may have seen this car in past tire rack ads with the pirate stickers :) I give these tires the Nod! These are much better than the A3S05s imo. megatron 04-24-2006, 01:05 AM thanks chewtoy. gonna give em a try at the atwater tour this weekend. DarkGift 04-24-2006, 11:42 AM Haven't been keeping up on these forums lately...work's kinda crazy, but I'm the aforementioned Todd. I went back to Hoosiers, because I got tired of needing Kumho's last year and having zero availability. I don't care how fast your tire is, if I can't buy it, it does me no good. Anyway, yes I was near our shifter kart times, but that just means they are slow in our region. (Sorry F125 guys.) Ideally I'd have a set of 710's and a set of A6's to run back to back on identical wheels and time to swap out alignments, but since a Brink's truck hasn't stopped by my house lately, that isn't going to happen. So, I can only compare times to last year (SM is pretty stable in our region) and subjective feel. I won SM by ~2.1 seconds on Sat and ~3.6 on Sunday (on Wendover concrete) I won by 2.8 seconds on my first event (1.8 at the next) on Kumho's last year, course times/layout was similar. I made no alignment changes and from pyro data it would seem the A6's want a bit less camber up front (I have 3.4* now) Given that the other top two cars made quite a few changes over the winter and were on new tires this event, first best guess is that the A6's are in the ballpark. As far as subjective feel, they don't seems to handle acceleration/braking as well as the 710's. I had a hard time lighting up the 710's off the line, but could spin the A6's with moderate rpms. Granted I didn't start using the 710's til June last year and it was only in the 60's (maybe low 70's by the afternoon) and windy for the Hoosiers. Also our starts had a bend in them very quickly which of course affects traction. Finally, last year I had a co-driver and so always started with warm tires etc. So it isn't really apples to apples. I'd recommend scrubbing the A6's in. I didn't have time to do such and they were pure grease for the first run. I didn't have my GEEZ hooked up, but will do that at the next event at Wendover to compare numbers. As far as longevity, who knows, but my car and driving style has always been easy on tires. I tend to heat cycle them out before cording. I'd suggest looking at the sccaforums.com site for more data. megatron 04-24-2006, 11:57 AM where'd you guys get your a6's? the rack doesn't have them, nor does hoosier tire west or hoosier tom. hoosier direct is out to lunch right now. edit: ok looks like they done ran out a few weeks ago and hoosier is supposed to have made more this weekend. yeepers. |
