The mounting kit uses hose clamps to hold the window net bracket. The instructions say that you should never weld the mounts to the roll bars.
Does anyone use this window net?

My old net hardware was welded to the bar, but the release was on the bottom, so I can't use the existing hardware. Please post if you find anything out. I'll set it up with the clamps and then I can weld them in later if needed. davidmcintyre 04-05-2006, 10:24 PM The mounting kit uses hose clamps to hold the window net bracket. So far they've handled two years of getting put up and down 10+ times a day for 5 days. They were a little tricky to get adjusted so that the hardware was not in a position likely to gouge our heads, but once positioned correctly we have had no problems with them. -Dave ssburns 04-06-2006, 08:39 AM I was trying to mount my Schroth net up last weekend. Didn't like my mounting options so I tried bending the latch end in a vise. It snapped at the existing bend without really bending and further. The part is ferrous (per the magnet test), but it's not definitely not mild steel (per the vise test). This may be why they included the "do not weld" comment. BTW. HMS was kind enough to send me another bracket. Great service! irace1 04-06-2006, 03:12 PM I just got mine and will be installing it tomorrow. I'm just worried about the strength when I'm flying in the air upside down, through a billboard....oh, wait a minute, I don't drive sprint cars any more. ....never mind:) scottbm3 04-06-2006, 10:49 PM I'm in the same boat. After about two hours I finally got it in a spot I can live with. If I were to do it again, I would buy a weld in unit. The clamps make it hard to get the net as far forward as I would like. It's tough to position the flat part of the latch on a round cage tube!!. I think I'd go for a hinged type so it would'nt be affected by angles. Oh well if it does work out, I'll change it later in the season. |
