View Full Version : Driving me crazy...

So I got my AE's installed today...I found out that the retrofit of 01+ headlights on a pre-01 car requires some splicing of the supplied wiring harnesses which came with the kit so the halos function. Ok, easy enough. I found DIY's all over the place and I could whip it out pretty quick.

One issue...I need some cable...20-22 gauge cable to be exact...Ok, so let's take a trip to OSH...no luck, they don't have it...Ok, how about the Do-it Center? As a matter of fact, they don't have it either, infact, they have all cables it seems except 20-22 guage...Well, alright...My dad just happens to be at the mall right now, I'll call him up and ask him to pick it up from radio shack...oh, what's that? Radio Shack is no longer at the mall...Damnit!

I can't find any place on the net that sells this cable (believe me, I've tried looking...tried the google thing, even tried ebay...no luck...)...

Can anyone help me out? I'm sure Home Depot has it (atleast I would imagine) but I don't feel like driving out to home depot for a few bucks worth of wiring...it's not far, but it's not close either.

I'm in the Westlake/Thousand Oaks area...can anyone help me out on where to find this goddamn wire anywhere around here? I'm going insane! :mad :eyecrazy

:help
Thanks,

-Nick

You can use 18 guage, it would work for that w/o any problems.

You got a Fry's near you ? Try there.

You must be making the Y-harnesses for the E39. IIRC you also have to bend one of the soft A/C tubes near the passenger headlight to get it to fit.

In case you haven't seen it, writeup at bmwtips.com (http://www.bmwtips.com/tipsntricks/angel%20harness%20adapters%20should______files/angeleyeharn.htm)

Thanks...from the way it looks I don't think I'll have to bend anything, but we'll see. No Fry's near me though.

I totally forgot there is a Sears by me though, so I'll check there. I'm not familiar with electrical so I don't know the pros and cons (other than thickness I guess) to different guage sizes, but if all else fails and I can't find the right guage, I'll take bimmerboi's advice and use 18.

Also, 318daily, thanks for the writeup suggestion, that actually happens to be the one I'm using to guide me through this process...
