I'm going to school either in Arizona or SC so I'm planning on tinting my windows darker(only have 35 on rears now) and was wondering if I should bother doing it before the summer if the cops are going to hassle me about it. What is everyone elses experience with tint and cops in NJ?

My initial plan was to get it in August before leaving for school as to avoid all confrontations and annoying tickets but now seeing how good tint looks I want to get anywhere from 12-20% all around.

Also, what is the penalty for tint? Just a $50 fix it? Are you even required to fix it or just pay fine?

Thanks in advance.

I would do the tints i have 15% in the rear and 20% up front and i love it but i have gotten pulled over a few times for it luckily no tickets, so its hit or miss with the cop. Also i dont know if you know or not so i'll just tell you anyway but you can go as dark as you want in the rear but nothing at all up front by law.

Did they just warn you or did you have an excuse? I would just tell them that I need it because I'm going to school in Arizona.

By the way, were you at Pier Village in Long Branch on Sunday? I'm pretty sure I saw your car go by when I was eating. You were at that marlboro meet last year right?

Register your car in SC or AZ and then tint it. If nothing else, insurance will be a LOT cheaper.

Yeah but SC's tint law is 23% max all round. You actually have to have a sticker put on the tint from the shop that does it. If you get caught they'll try to make you pull it.

That said, my advice remains to leave your car registered at home, and then get it tinted once you get to where you're headed. I'd rather pay a slight fine for illegal tint in my homestate, then get nailed for speeding with a local plate while at school. At least with outta state plates if I get speeding tickets I don't get any points.

Get a docters note saying that you have an eye condition?

You can only tint a car to what the state allows. If Az allows 15%, but if the car has NJ plates you still can only go to 35% because its based on where the car is registured and that states tint laws.

I was thinking about doing this when i was in FL but because I still had NY plates i could only go as dark as NY would allow.

haha yea i was at pier village i actually saw you drive by when i was at turning point and i thought i recognized you and your car. We did meet at that marlboro meet last year. I think you had just gotten then car. Your car has come along way it looks really nice good work man. and usually the cops let me off cause i show them my firefighter badge and they see my plate and usually just let me slide. so i guess that helps me most of the time lol

Haha I was eating there too when I saw your car. Thanks for the compliments your car looks awesome too. I forgot about your fire plates and badge I guess thats the difference between getting a ticket and not.

At EuroCar in shrewsbury they only have 6%, 12%, and 32% so I might just end up getting the 12 all around and hoping not to get bothered before I go to school.

Those are weird tint numbers...anyways its almost that time of year again where everyone just keeps the windows down for the majority anyway since its gonna be getting hot out so its not gonna be as bad as having tinted windows right now when its cold because a cop has more of a chance to see them ya know.

besides the doctor's note, you have to request a special form from the DMV which your eye doctor has to fill out and send back to DMV and if DMV will approve it, you will be issued a special Medical Exception to Apply vehicle sun-screening (tint). You request this from from the Medical Fitness Unit at Trenton. If you don't have it, you can still get tickets for tint, for each window !! It is illeagal to tint windows in passenger cars (only the back windows in SUVs and Minivans) I got 4 tix in NYC even though my tint is 35% all around :fingerboi

Thanks for the info.

4 tickets thats pretty harsh for 35%. Is there any doctors that will actually falsify these documents for people?

Finally went ahead and got 20% all around. Got it done at Ultimate Sounds and Security in Keyport for just under 200. Car looks a lot better but it seems like theres 10 times more cops on the road now. My car sticks out in town already to the cops, but I'm hoping they will let the tint slide.

kinda pricey.. boss audio in perth amboy does it for 100... i would actually never go to that place in keyport, they installed my friends speakers... he had 2 pairs of alpine type r's and one pair didnt fit, so they said ill just put in type s's, mind you thats a 70 dollar difference, and then they still raped him on install.
