does anyone here do construction work? I want the wall between my kitchen and dining room knocked down and a bar with stools put in place. I know it isnt a load bearing wall.

Anyone here do this type of work or have any suggestions? I am tempted to take a 20lb sledge and do it myself :devillook

When our house was being re-sided in the fall, I took out an attic wall using just that method. :alright

Big fun! :buttrock

You could do it yourself. Might help to have a friend or two around to make sure you don't blast through piping or wiring...

Yup, soon to be engaged. Why do you ask?

Yup, soon to be engaged. Why do you ask?I'm guessing because you're putting up a bar with stools, though it sounds more like a raised eating area/island. :)

If you get me angry enough, I'll do it for free.

Can you simply modify your house without getting it done to code? You don't want to get shafted when it's time to sell the house etc...
Then again, I am neither a home owner nor home builder/construction dude so what do I know :embarrasm ?

As long as it's not a load-bearing wall he will be ok code-wise. It's very easy to see if it's load-bearing or not.

As far as legally doing construction on your house, some counties are VERY strict on doing ANY construction. Some counties could care less. Make sure which kind of county you are in. Or you may be spending alot more money.

What's up man! Yeah it's from the auto-x. It wasn't easy instructing my buddy to capture the action shots but 1 out of 50 is good enough.
The only other pics were of your car and Mike's car at the staging line :( Next time around, remind me and I'll point out which car's he's to have action shots of.

BTW, do you know when they are gonna post the results and pics from Sunday's auto-x? :help

Check with your city or county Building Official to see if you need a permit.

Here in Douglasville, you do not need a permit for a remodel or any new construction less than 100 sq ft.

It will be worth a phone call to be sure.
