The package is already out:

http://www.allcarwallpapers.com/wallpapers/previews/bmw-1-series-m-sportpackage-812.jpg

BMW announced it will introduce a new, more powerful 1-Series model, and an “M Sport” cosmetics package for its 3 and 5 Series and X3 models. The 130i gets BMW’s 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, which has been tweaked to get 258hp, more than the 330i, 530i and 630i — in fact, only the M3 has a more powerful six. Torque has been redefined upward by 11 clicks, to 232ft/lbs. From a stop, 60mph comes on in 6.1 seconds, and the speed nanny confiscates the milk and cookies at 155mph. Active Steering, which adjusts turning ratio based on speed, is available as an option. The 130i will launch (sorry, Tennessee) in Europe this September.

The M Sport package (a poor use of the M brand, no?) incudes a lower front spoiler styled for increased aerodynamics, sculpted side sills. bespoke 17- or 18-inch double-spoke alloy wheels, tuned suspension and high-gloss paint, along with interior enhancements, in the seating, headlining and steering areas.

Its only a matter of time before they release the complete package per say. Calling it the M1, would not be a smart descion on BMW's part though.

It will never be an M1. Too much history in the name for BMW to do it. I can't wait to see if they give it the turbo 6. that thing will be sex

I'm 99% certain BMW dropped the "2" and "4" series badgings. And people saying that calling the 130i the "m-sport" is wrong need to remember the "m-tech" e36 318ti.

Nothing wrong with the "M-Sport". Calling it an M1 would be wrong.

Maybe I just don't comprehend the dimensions of the car right, but this just looks like a wagon version of the new 3-series with a sporty grill.

And to agree with footballcrzy888, wagons in both the 3-series and 5-series platforms have always looked like crap and have been marketed completely for function over form.

Maybe the sales department is just using the 1 badging to spark a little interest in the thing before they retract their statement and slap a 330iT badge on it. I could be wrong.

Bmw is gunna have to start reusing numbers folks, theres only so many ways to cut it up. the z4 is out and the next gen is gunna cause some confusion if you call it a z5 will people get it confused with the 5 series? with the z6 enfringe on corvette's copywrites? what if bmw just named their cars the same way they always have, 1 is tiny 3 is small 5 is medium 7 is big then just fill in the blanks and let model year differentate cars with similar names but different bodies

Instead of M1... it should just be called the...

...M Hatch?

We have M Roadsters and M Coupes.
I think that, if they do eventually release one is how it will go.

I would like to say however with the performance of the 130i where it is, to put anything more powerful in the car may encroach on the territory of other models.

The "M-Sport" 130i is NOT a mis-use of the M badge. It is simply the description given to the cosmetic and suspension work. You can still buy a stock standard 130i without the M sport trimmings. Though the M Sport trimmings do make it one freaking sexy hatch.

In all honesty though witht he new m coupe coming out I don't see a real market position for this, the m coupe is 50k aprox, the 1 series pushes 30k in the states, its essentially an economy model, and why you'd put an m emblem on that I'm not sure.

What were the numbers? 318ti were the numbers, if that is what you mean...

It was a "regular" ti with an E36 (of course) M3 front end, flat wide side moulding and a rear skirt that looked like an M3. I think there was a Club Sport version with M3 mirrors in addition to the rest.

Bad news was it was an M44 with no tuning or anything special about the power plant. All looks, no go. It is a shame, as there was a 323ti in Europe with the 2.3 6 in it that never made it here.

It was actually called the Club Sport if I remember right, TonyMasone has one, in a beautiful color seen only on that model, Alaskan Blue. Something like 500 cars or so if I remember right. It had an LSD too, it was awesome.

I thought yours was a base/active Package ti with a swap and the M3 bumper?

It was actually called the Club Sport if I remember right, TonyMasone has one, in a beautiful color seen only on that model, Alaskan Blue. Something like 500 cars or so if I remember right. It had an LSD too, it was awesome.

TonyMasone only had a SPORT (96-98) packaged one.

ClubSports were only offered in 95. They had the M bumpers, mirrors, skirts, LSD, 16inch wheels, and I believe that the suspension was just a bit lower too.. They also only came in Schwarz II and Hellrot and had the M42 motor.
The sport package for this year looked just like a regular ti, but with the sport interior.
IIRC, there were only 2000 or so Club Sports made.
From 96-98, the sport was basically the same as the 95 Club Sport, except it didnt have the M3 mirrors and no LSD and it had the M44 motor on it.
In 99, all the 318tis were Sport models.

My car is a 97 sport...I wish it was the ClubSport haha...

The 1 series M should be called the M compact...or M hatch like everybody said haha...

Like the fact that it has a strong engine and new suspension.

Hate the fact it looks like something Eddie Munster would drive.

Why not make a BMW style Willy car ?

Would look just as ridiculous as the 1 series.

Sorry.....I just have to get used to the look

Still disappointed they canned the 325i and 330i for the 1 series.

Promise.

[QUOTE]Still disappointed they canned the 325i and 330i for the 1 series./QUOTE]

What are you saying here? BMW isn't replacing the 3 series with the 1 -- the 3 series has gone so upmarket and gotten so expensive there is now room for body style below it. That's what the 1 is all about.

The one series shown in this thread isn't a full M car, it's a 1 series with the M sero package. It's possible they do something different here -- again based on sales and market interest.

Except doesn't the 130i seat four or five and the M coupe seats 2? Plus, they could always put the new M3 V8 into the M coupe and the old S54 into the M Hatch and then they really wouldn't be the same machines at all.

Hah it probably WILL be scary if BMW doesn't offer a limited slip diff either standard or as part of some options package. Not saying that they'll do that... I'm guessing they wont... but of all the non-M cars BMW has ever produced, this will be their most LSD-demanding yet.

Don't get me wrong though I am completely stoked for this car and I hope I'll be looking at it in a few year's time.
