On the drive there what are the chances of getting pulled over, I have heard the cops will pull over every 3rd car and make up open your hood. Should I put my stock air box back on?

There are a lot of cops on the route to santa barbara. Last year my buddy got popped on the way back from bimmerfest.
Just put your stock intake back on.

stock air box, cuz if you put a false cap sticker on the intake, they will know anyways. Cops in CA know their shit man, so watch out.

if your going on the baybimmerz caravan, i dont think they will be checking the hoods of 200 cars or even 50

It is illegal since you don't have a CARB # on it. Any intake, exhaust etc.. parts on the car that replace the factory parts will be considered illegal if they dont have the CARB sticker. Check on the Vehicle code section for CA.

You're not going to get pulled over unless you're doing some dumb crap. There's going to be WAY to many of us for them to even attepmt that. I'm not worried about my conforti intake...deffinately not going through the trouble of taking it off :confused

since when was a CAI illegal?only two are CARB legal, Dinan and ECIS. And maybe K&N. All others lack the EO # and are illegal. Any type of engine modification to the intake system has to be CARB approved.

So in answer to your question, they have always been illegal unless they have the CARB EO#.

Will cops hassle you for an illegal CAI? :dunno

They'll stop you for something else, and then say that something on the exterior of the vehicle gives them the hunch or assumption the your car has been illegally modified for street racing, and will then proceed to ask you to open the hood. A CAI without would be the first most obvious thing. and he could write you a fix-it/smog ticket...and they'd probably even do it with or without that carb sticker. even if the intake is carb legit.

I hate the crackdown here in cali.

This any many other reasons are why I do not go up with the caravan. Fast cars + Big Egos = Dangerous

things they can pull you over for without doing dumb things:

aftermarket exhaust
C/F Hood
Lowered Car...they can use the excuse that they deemed that it was too low to be safe on the streets
Tinted front windows
clearcorners that don't blink orange
driving with angel eyes on that aren't white.

Trust me, I have lived in Cali for years, and I have a bunch of CHP friends...it always helps. They will look for any excuse to pull you over just from a visual once over. I would never drive my m3 up to bimmerfest becuase of this, I hate getting pulled over. Oh and if they catch you with a track pipe, it is a huge fine.

Did ECIS finally get their cert? Last I heard it was "pending", and I am still stickerless.

Unless your in the E21 Legion, whom a member just so happens to be a CHP for Santa Barbara. The cops know whats up with Bimmerfest, they know what it brings to SB. They wont be dicks and pull you over for just having what looks to be "suspecious" bolt on's or what have you. Hopefully the Mayor will have our backs again this year.

Drive safe and obey the laws, and have a great weekend.

I've been three times, that is complete BS. They will only stop you if you are speeding.

ECIS has been CARB certified for at least a year now, probably longer.

Where do you get the stickers? um, gee, that's a tough one, I wonder, um, you know, maybe ECIS? :rolleyes

You'll need proof of purchase though, they don't just hand them out.

As long as you aren't speeding or making dangerous lane changes you probably won't get pulled over.

Correct...
Set the cruise at 65, crank some tunes, and enjoy the ride.
Do that and I'd bet the cops won't hassle you.

Never fails though that some group of asshats will go charging up the 101 being complete morons.:nono

Guys, dont worry so much like that though. Cops in CA are strict, but they're not an asshole unless you're one. Whatever you have in your car, just leave it they are not going to cavity search your car unless you're doing something illegal or stupid.Let say, we keep it cool, drive safe, follow speed limit, no burn out, no speeding, do nothing against the law, they'll cut us a break. ( because they freaking love bimmer too lol...)

You guys think if I don't get pulled over in a 800hp Supra you're gonna get pulled over for an intake in a BMW? Don't worry about it, the people who get pulled over are the ones who do 100 miles an hour to the event. THEY WILL be looking for those people.

Not to mention I don't think they make a carb sticker big enough for what I got under the hood.

back when I had my "rice" car I got pulled over for all the dumb sh*t (tint, lowered, Aftermarket intake & exhaust)
Since I've had my bimmer I haven't been pulled over once for any of those B.S. reasons

Only Speeding :D

If we don't do anything stupid, we'll be ok
