I'm considering adding a VFE supercharger to my 2000 540i 6-speed. Anyone familiar with this product: http://www.vf-engineering.com/index.php?v=/kit_bmw_e39_540.php
Or, have experience with a competing product?

Thanks for the tip. You're right, it's quite a long post.

I have a 2000 540 sport auto with a Dinan s3 package. No problems so far about 20k miles. Fast handles great. As fast if not faster than an m5. At these speeds whats the difference. Dinan in Morgan Hill did the work and Steve Dinan did the final tuning.

There's a handful of people running this setup, one of which is a 540iT I believe. You may want to check the Forced Induction forum here or checkout the E39 forum on bmwtips.com, I've seen some there. I've only read good things so far

sure, i've had the setup since march on my 01 540. here's a post dyno.. it's a bit shy on power, some of which can be explained by the auto tranny ~20% and some of which is a result of the Mustang dyno (they read low).

I have done lots of research and The tuning is what make everything work together. Dinan spent 2 weeks with a laptop set up in my car fine tuning until it was just right. I am running between 410 and 430 hp and about the same in torque. Never been on a dyno these are Dinans estimates. These are not the fastest in 1/4 mile times but at high speed they are crazy. On open highways I will go after anything out there. I have been up to 155 with plenty left still pulling strong but got scared of the chp. If they caught me it would be instant jail.

nice setup Mike!
yeah, i'm at 390 hp (calculating tranny loss) at the crank via Mustang dyno (consevative). I'm still a little on the low side of VF's vehicles... waiting to dyno on DynoJet w/ air fuel and see if it's optimal.
SC'd 540s are are fast! Look at my tq curve... it's full blast at 1900rpm across the board. Whomever says centrifugal superchargers don't add anything down low should think again.

Yea, I notied that...your torque curve is awesome.
How much were you guys into it for when all was said and done with the SC installs (atleast from VF...that's the one I would go with I think)...

The process can be very frustrating. If you have any components that affect the air and fuel mixture that are marginally failing (like a marginally bad maf or cats or vacuum leak), the problems will be magnified. The result is lower than expected power output after spilling bank. You could be left with an overly rich or overly lean condition, the later obviously the most dangerous. This is not specific to any SC maker and it's not their fault. It's just part of the process. Dyno'ing with air fuel is a must to make sure you don't fall into that category. After that, it's just pure fun... until you get a ticket... I might have to sell my ticket monster cuz I can't drive her the way she wants to be driven.
6k for SC + 1600 install

sorry for the thread jack but 54ODell where did you get those rims? I've been looking for a set of staggered 32s for a while and can't seem to find ANYONE who has them. Looks sick!
