Hey all,
I'm thinking of repainting my car to a dark blue and am wondering if it would look good. If you have pics I'd appreciate them being posted or emailed. Was there a color like that on the E34s? If so, what is the official name? A link to a website showing colors would be awesome if it exists.

thanks for the opinions and help.

Any BMW shade of blue looks great. BMW makes the best blues.

Orient was an original color and looks great, but my personal favorites are Avus and Topaz, with Avus getting the nod. Mauritius looks great too.

Biarritz on the E39 and E38 looks great, kindof inbetween Avus and Topaz.

How good of a repaint will this be? What about the door jambs and engine bay?

Hey, don't forget Lemans Blue on the E39 M5. When it is waxed and polished, it's probably the best looking paint I've seen.

no, I think I'd like to stick with a dark shade of blue. something like navy. I've always thought they looked really good. Maybe Avus would be a good choice. From what I've seen, I like that shade.

Hopefully it will be a good respray. A friend of mine just graduated from Wyotech, and he owes me a favor. I plan on helping with the dismantling and bitch work though. I think we're going to do the engine bay in just a black, and we'll definitely do the door jambs in the exterior color.

However, I'm at an impasse. My car has lots of little things wrong with it, however they are all cosmetic (i.e. rusty door bottoms, needs new bumper, paint, some light hail damage, etc.) but mechanically it's in really good shape. I didn't pay much for it, so at the time I couldn't really pass up a deal on a 535 5spd, but I'd like to find one in a little better shape. Do you think I could pick one up in the bay area this summer for ~$4k? I'll be living in the Sunnyvale/San Jose area for the summer because I got an internship with lockheed martin.

Thanks again for the advice.

That car looks Orient to me. It's really dark - you could mistake it for black in a parking garage.

the color is pretty good. but a lighter blue would look better.

Damn, wish I had a buddy that went to Wyotech! Talk about a good connection...:buttrock

Anyways, I'm guessing your car is stick, so I would keep it. I would definitely repaint it in your case, assuming your Wyotech buddy knows how to do all of this stuff. Go for the repaint, but even a great color looks like crap if it's a low-quality paint job.

Interlagos Blue is a nice shade to think of, but Carbon Black is my favorite.

Black is the way to go, but if you insist on blue, I say avus

I like black, but there's just too many of them. I've always been in love with blue bimmers, to me they look stunning. Especially with some tasteful chrome wheels.
