So I come home from the gym on saturday all ready to go out and have a good time. So i go by the pool hall to pick up my date, She was with some friends waiting for me to leave the gym :). So as we pull out the parking lot ripping a mean one, i gunn it and i see water on my windshield. Crapola, i pull over and water all underneath my hood and a busted hose upper, just had an engine detail professionally. So i tape it up and get her home. Not only did it fuk sat up it also messed sunday up as well because i had to fix it. The hose had seem like it busted from the pressure, Any reason for this beyond me abusing it at the time>? I was thinking it was possible that the thermostat got jammed and caused it? I think i am gonna replace the thermostat and all radiator hose as well ... any ideas guys

you may have had an air bubble in the system and when you opened it up teh hose could not take the pressure. Replace hoses and tstat, properly bleed system and then do a pressure test to be sure it's not leaking anywhere else too. Man that must have been embarrassing, lol. So much for pimpin.

What year is the 540i? Original hose?

yeah its an original ... i think i am gonna replace them all ....

Inspect the rad neck for cracking while you have the upper hose off - you're in the mileage range for that to go as well.

EDIT: oh - try to keep the pimpin' down - it's hard on the car. If you pimp it regularly, at least be sure to observe the "severe duty" maintenance schedule.

I blew the upper radiator hose on both 540s that i owned.

Those hoses are a common problem... 60-70k miles is the mileage they usually start to crack.
