Just wanted to say congrats to Will Turner for being the only BMW to finish in the top 17!!!!:buttrock

Curious what happened to the Bimmerworld boys??? Seth was right behind Will but then he sort of vanished? I didn't hear the announcers say anything about it. Anyone know? For a little it was looking that BMW was going to have a good showing (considering the adjustments) with Clay, Seth, Justin and Will in the top 15 for Qual. but it seemed that car issues hurt quite a few people:(

Anyhow, anyone think that they will adjust the BMWs again???

looked like an action packed race with really surprising behavior even before the first turn which caused a pretty massive wreck. i was shocked to see such carnage before T1...but then again its speed world challege and its known for close racing

Ya the start was CRAZY!! What the heck was with the car that slammed into the wall backwards at speed??

I think that silver car that slammed backwards across the track was an illusion that it was accelerating. I think hit the right side wall, slid on it and kept going from momentum...it was not accelerating across the track.

I find it kind of funny how some cars are given blatantly extreme advantages (such as mazda using Xtrax sequential transmissions) and then they give such penalties to cars that are obviously pretty evenly matched with all the changes. Just does not make sense.

Not sure what happened to Seth, i think he might have had a spin from someone as he was fighting pretty hard with a couple cars (i think the MB?). Clay apparently had problems, and Goldman was in there, i think he actually helped the leader/mazda get a little ahead by holding up second place. Was a good race overall though, lots of weird events, and good battles....but without BMW's dicing it up it was kinda boring ;)

i think the SRT-4 driven by Stewart is a speedtechnik.com car though i might be wrong. Either way i heard something along the lines of it being stuck in reverse and wide open throttle!? It just sounds ridiculous for that to happen....either way i hope hes alright, im sure his back is hurting. I also saw Seth get clipped in turn 1 which almost sent him sideways but he caught it! awesome driving

I saw Seth's car...left rear suspension got messed up...bad. Where it was parked, the wheel was cocked at about 10-15 degrees of positive camber. A few of the BMWs seemed to be letting out smoke alot. The yellow and black car got its passenger door smashed, other than that, I don't know. One of the Bimmerworld cars got kinda sideways out of turn 9 and I thought he was going to hit the wall.

Gee...given the incredible performances of the Mazda's & Acura's (A-G-A-I-N), I sure wonder if THEy'LL get a similar "adjustment" to BMW's across the board.

I am not holding my breath, given how much Mazda & Acura spend on WC sponsorship.

Seth says it was the result of hitting curbing. Clay had mechanical problems as well and was in and out of the pits more than once.

Actual curbs or the rumble strips? That sucks, would have been nice to see the both of them up there.

Rumble Strips is what caused the damage. The bolt holding the lower control arm to the rear hub broke. It really stinks because we all had great cars for the weekend. I definitely had a great car that was top-10 material. Guess it is time for us to get those E90s out now.

 wow, they must have been pretty high.

Seth - how was the hump in the road? Looked pretty vicious!

It wasn't as bad as it looked. We could take it almost flat and the more on the throttle we were the harder it was on our kidneys. It was definitely jarring.

Here is the Turner release -

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

BMWs Battle Against Competition Adjustments

ST. PETERSBURG, FL - 04/03/2006 - Will Turner was the highest-finishing BMW driver in yesterday's SPEED Touring Car race on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida. Turner, piloting the #2 H&R Springs/EdgeRock Technologies BMW 325i started from the fourth row and advanced several positions in the course of the race to finish in the sixth position.

After the win by Bill Auberlen and Turner Motorsport in the opening round at Sebring, the series officials levied heavy penalties against the BMWs: 100lbs additional minimum weight, a lower rev limit by 400 rpm, and a mandatory shift in the weight distribution to 52% front/48% rear.

At the start Turner avoided a starting line melee that resulted in the race's only caution period. The racing resumed on lap 6 and after seven laps of green flag racing Turner got around a slower BMW and set his sights on the leaders. Were he not saddled with the additional weight, Turner could have made it a tighter battle at the front. With a sixth-place finish - the only BMW in the top seventeen - Turner is not un-happy. He credits the performance of the StopTech Brakes and H&R suspension setup as his advantage over the other BMWs.

Will Turner, pilot, #2 H&R Springs/EdgeRock Technologies BMW 325i:
"My car was great and I drove a great race but I don't think the BMW would have won with its current configuration. I think everyone should have a chance at winning but the penalties that SCCA handed out made it hard for us to advance in the race. It essentially made it an Acura-Mazda battle at the front. Qualifying said it all - the top three rows were all Mazdas and Acuras."

Turner, an experienced Touring Car driver and multi-time winner in the series, regularly races a BMW 330i in the Grand Am Cup series and a BMW M3 in SCCA Club Racing. However, Touring Car racing provides a thrill for Turner, who won his first race on a temporary street circuit in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1999.

The SPEED Channel has several replays of the race scheduled for this week: Monday, April 3, 2006 at 3:00pm ET and Wednesday, April 5 at 12:00pm.

I like how he refers or "credits" the H&R suspension setup, which I believe only consists of H&R springs. Not sure if that car is currently on moton or ohlin shocks.

But its definitely setup well, and he's quick.

There was one guy I talked to there in a red and white 325, owner and sponsor was Phil's Auto body. I talked to the guy before the race, he seemed like a nice fellow.

Anyway, I missed the opening crash, but afterwards, he was missing his rear bumper and sending quite a bit of smoke out the rear going into turn 1. He started getting passed a bunch and finally ended in the pits. Hope everything works out for him, he seemed like a nice guy. Tough break.

From another list I am on, Justin Hall's radiator mount broke and pushed into the fan. Too bad as he was clipping along pretty good.

It will be interesting to see if the SCCA does anything.

P.S. One thing do like about the BMW's is that you can root for the underdog. I am guessing but I am assuming Mazda and Acura have more factory support in those teams. If they hadn't been quite so severe with the BMW's they could have evened things up pretty good. However, do you think Mazda and Acura want to spend all that $$ and have privateers beat them?

Things were off to a good start, but some small issues contributed to the results that we had this weekend. Seth, James and Paul all did a good job and there were no major incidents.

Goldman was doing well, but got bumped by another driver and it pushed his quarter panel into the left-rear tire. When he came into the pit the tire was nearly worn through. We used a pry bar, pulled the fender out, slapped on a new tire and off he went.

Mid-Ohio will be a whole new game with the E90's on the prowl :)

Yeah Justin had a great run going until the radiator mount broke and allowed the upper hose to get sliced by the alt pulley. He had a really good chance at a top 10 run.

JP had an oil leak for most of the race and lost power steering on the first lap. He got black flagged while falling back and we diapered up the leak and sent him back out. He then proceeded to get clobbered and sent into the wall by the Autohaus Merc of Kuno Witmer. We've got a pile of damage to JP's car on three corners and Justin's car has a blown motor.

Needless to say, I was pretty dejected after spending the time between Sebring and St pete finishing the cars, only to have one DNF and one wrecked :(

We were hoping to get testing right away but we'll be scrambling for a bit first.
