View Full Version : How in the world is Ide still in F1? Glenn 328is 04-01-2006, 01:27 AM He is horrible!!! BTW, qualifying is on NOW!! chr328is 04-01-2006, 01:38 AM He is horrible!!! BTW, qualifying is on NOW!! answer: the same way Sato is. By the end of races, they just become lap traffic ///Mpmp1025 04-01-2006, 03:19 AM i really wish they gave these guys seats to drivers that really deserve them and arent dangers to the sport like Sato. id be happy to race probono for these teams, maybe they can use the salary money they save to bulid me a better car :D watched qualifying like live, god i love live timing on formula1.com:buttrock Jmabarone 04-01-2006, 03:28 AM good point. He just isn't F1 material. It's sad that he is out there racing while Kubica and Davidson, who are both excellent drivers, are only practice drivers. Maybe it was a political thing, since BAR dumped Sato and then helped out the team(don't know the team's name) with Sato and Ide. Jake CaracasE30 04-01-2006, 03:30 AM Cmon....they are running chassis from 2002 Arrows'. This first season and most importantly these first few races are more or less test sessions for them. Keep in mind Sato and Ide have quite a background in motorsports. They arent the best...no shit.....but they are none the less doing the best they can given the current situation in Super Aguri. Charlie 04-01-2006, 08:28 AM i really wish they gave these guys seats to drivers that really deserve them and arent dangers to the sport like Sato. id be happy to race probono for these teams, maybe they can use the salary money they save to bulid me a better car :D Salary money? See the name on the side of those cars? The one with the big H? Aguri isn't providing any salary to either of those two. Ide's been racing pro level stuff for 12 years, Formula 3, Formula Nippon, and japanese GT, he's not a total hack. He's just in way over his head, in an awful car. The car that he's out there in this week sat for 3 years in an airport lobby as a show car, they had to bring it up to current spec and slap a Honda motor in it in 2 weeks time. As for Sato, he's Japan's Dale Jr. He's going to have a ride no matter what. I still love Matchett constantly refering to it as the "super best friends" chassis. -Charlie metale 04-01-2006, 11:11 AM Ide did a pretty good job bringing all kind of dirt into the track. All he kind of ruinned Ruben's qualif. He may not be competitive, but he should at least try not to mess with other driver's race. Charlie 04-01-2006, 11:18 AM Rubens ruined Rubens' qualifying. He was slow in practice, and waited until late to go out and get a lap in. He still doesn't have a feel for the honda, and looked to be struggling. -Charlie JuliusPleaser 04-01-2006, 11:30 AM Most of the really bad drivers don't get a 'salary'. They pay the teams (via sponsors) to let them drive. BETO 04-01-2006, 01:36 PM Most of the really bad drivers don't get a 'salary'. They pay the teams (via sponsors) to let them drive. Like it's always been. Very popular during the late 70's and 80's. I wish my company would "sponsor" me just for autoxing:evil2 As for Sato, he's Japan's Dale Jr. He's going to have a ride no matter what. That's a very good comparison. Poor Ide, I know the car is worth crap, but still, he is getting hammerd by the commentators. I'd like to see Kimi and Michael driving those old Arrows, see if they are that bad.:devillook Emil 04-01-2006, 01:38 PM I couldn't believe how many mistakes Ide made and yet he persisted and kept going. What was he thinking, "I'm not stopping until a wall stops me" ? 4 times was it that he went off? And what the hell is the point of competing with a chassis that is 3 years old anyways? It is light years behind in terms of aerodynamic developments the other teams have made since... I think this just creates a nuisance for most all other drivers, and is downright dangerous to be so damn slow compared to everyone else. trippinbillies4 04-01-2006, 02:03 PM Saying Ide is doing the best he can doesn't say much when Sato is driving the same car around the track 4 seconds faster. CaracasE30 04-01-2006, 04:18 PM to his ability. Ide is no F1 master and he is learning the tracks as he goes with just a few laps of practice and quali. Same with Rosberg and Speed. Some tracks they have raced on before but can you imagine how hard it must be to compete with the best drivers in the best cars on the same track yet you only have a combined lap total of maybe say 20-25 depending on your strategy and engine life(?) when the others have raced on it for years on end. I give them credit, though not a lot, i still give them credit for doing what they can. Def 04-01-2006, 05:00 PM Saying Ide is doing the best he can doesn't say much when Sato is driving the same car around the track 4 seconds faster. Exactly... Sato isn't exactly a fast qualifier from his previous showings at BAR, so a 4 sec gap in essentially the same car while not going off every other corner doesn't exactly say much for Ide. ///Mpmp1025 04-01-2006, 05:14 PM Exactly... Sato isn't exactly a fast qualifier from his previous showings at BAR, so a 4 sec gap in essentially the same car while not going off every other corner doesn't exactly say much for Ide. but Sato has raced these tracks before and hes a more experienced driver. on that note i think the Sato is the most dangerous driver on the circuit and he has no business racing this calibre. the only reason hes still in is bc Japan wants him in. thats y that team was started. i feel there r many more talented drivers that deserve that spot. Ide deserves a shot, its his first year and he has a car that cant compete. i would love to see one of the top drivers drive this car. IMHO Sato had his shot and he blew it, now its time for u to let someone else have a shot. CaracasE30 04-01-2006, 05:37 PM i dont know if anyone has kept up with the news but theres 22 entries for 2008.....meaning with the current 11 teams there is only one spot available for a new team. Maybe this will bring about these "seats other drivers deserve" Kaizu 04-01-2006, 05:58 PM Some tracks they have raced on before but can you imagine how hard it must be to compete with the best drivers in the best cars on the same track yet you only have a combined lap total of maybe say 20-25 depending on your strategy and engine life(?) when the others have raced on it for years on end. Well as crazy as it sounds, it takes only "a couple of laps" for Rosberg to learn the track! No way they are able to drive 20-25 laps every new track before the action ;) EDIT: And yes, he has a poor car but Ide doesn't belong to F1... ArticM3 04-01-2006, 06:15 PM i dont know if anyone has kept up with the news but theres 22 entries for 2008.....meaning with the current 11 teams there is only one spot available for a new team. Maybe this will bring about these "seats other drivers deserve" I was going to mention this. I think there is a 12 team cap, which would mean 10 teams won't get in. I don't know if the current teams are guaranteed a spot or not, but if not, my money is on Super Aguri being gone by 2008. robweenerpi 04-01-2006, 06:48 PM You guys are also forgetting.....that the arrows car sucked in 2002 as well. ///Mpmp1025 04-01-2006, 07:57 PM very true that team was horrible then and the team uses there goods is horrible now. guess that something to be said about the engineering Well as crazy as it sounds, it takes only "a couple of laps" for Rosberg to learn the track! No way they are able to drive 20-25 laps every new track before the action ;) EDIT: And yes, he has a poor car but Ide doesn't belong to F1... Rosberg, i feel, is the exception to the rule. he is one of the smartest drivers on the circuit. smarter, IMO, than some of the veterans. CaracasE30 04-01-2006, 11:49 PM no doubt Rosberg is an exception. Like Villaneuve has stated before, its so frustrating to set up a car with just 8 practice laps! He was talking about the prior gp, with engine life in question (losing avg of 35hp a race) and engineers having their way this time in GP era....the reality is that no team runs the entire practice time available. If the drivers would have it their way....they would drive every lap available, if the engineers had it their way...it would be all computer simulations until quali in order to preserve the chassis/engines. jdholder 04-02-2006, 02:14 AM I was going to mention this. I think there is a 12 team cap, which would mean 10 teams won't get in. I don't know if the current teams are guaranteed a spot or not, but if not, my money is on Super Aguri being gone by 2008. There is a 12 team cap, until 2007. I don't think the Operations Regulations have been made public yet, and I know the Sporting Regulations have not. The agreement that governs F1 expires at the end of 2007, so the 22 applications for F1 competitors in 2008 would be governed by the new agreement, and I don't think anyone knows if there is a team cap or not. CaracasE30 04-02-2006, 06:20 AM Im loving Ron Dennis' idea of having however many new teams try to out-qualify each other and the slowest being left out. It would bring back good ole times! metale 04-02-2006, 09:48 AM Rubens ruined Rubens' qualifying. He was slow in practice, and waited until late to go out and get a lap in. He still doesn't have a feel for the honda, and looked to be struggling. IMO, and from the images, he was clearly held back by Ide. Looked almost as if he was doing it on purpose :confused ///Mpmp1025 04-02-2006, 08:23 PM IMO, and from the images, he was clearly held back by Ide. Looked almost as if he was doing it on purpose :confused im a huge Rubens fan, actually hes one of my favorite drivers if not second favorite, Rubens should have pushed earlier. its his own fault, u have to count on things like that to happen especially w/rookies in the field that might not be used to F1 quite yet, in this type of qualifing. hes a victim of the new qualifing, at most. metale 04-03-2006, 05:04 AM u have to count on things like that to happen especially w/rookies in the field You are right. Still, Ide should (could) have let him pass. Again, IMO. Hope they both learnt with it. gobuffs 04-03-2006, 07:39 AM Ide is lucky they don't have the 107% rule anymore. I thought about making a poll after seeing qualifying of "Who's worse Alex Yoong or Ide?" |
