I've been once, in the long long ago. It was a blast.

Wore me the hell out, too.

Nowhere really convenient for me...:(

How much of a beginner? Do you have any equipment? Do you know how to belay?

I have only been doing it for a few years with ropes. I used to climb freestyle when I was in the Army, but I am fairly new to the whole "protection" thing.

You should take it up again! We could have a rock-climbing meet.

Have a harness.. and am good at belaying.. We used a gri-gri (spelling?) to assist with belaying. I have done 4 good climbs (75-100 feet)

Can you belay without a gri-gri (e.g., using an ATC)? Do you have shoes?

Ropes and related climbing devices are referred to as "protection."

Edit: I am sorry if all of this discussion of ropes is having an unintentional effect on you.

You can just using a figure 8 loop.. that is how we did it before.. The nice thing about the grigri is the saftey issue. If someone falls the gri gri will stop the rope automatically, the figure 8 the person has to lock the rope behind their back, but works just fine.. ATC? What is that? Not familiar with all the terms.

I have used a gri gri and the figure 8....but I prefer ATC's. This is what I am talking about:

Ive been meaning to get back into climbing as well. I have all the gear ie rope, harness, shoes, ATC, carabiners, etc etc. Ive been wanting to join Atlanta Rocks to get back into it but of course its hard to find someone that climbs consistently. Let me know if you all ever want to get together. Its a great workout.

I was climbing rather consistently until my car accident, but I am ready to get right back into it. What level do you climb? I have done some 5.10s indoors, but I usually max out at 5.8 outside.

The Midtown Atlanta Rocks is just a few minutes from my office, so I am game whenever.

Yeah, thats about what I climb on a good day, maybe a tad less. I need to develop my technique a little more but its fun. Have been to rock town before to climb and climbed occasionally in College at White Rock NM and Los Alamos. Been to Atlanta rocks in the past.

Do you know if they have decent Gym facilities there? I dont recall? The monthly membership there isnt too bad either.

The Midtown Atlanta Rocks doesn't have too much in the way of gym facilities. I have never been to the Perimeter location, but I understand from others that they have a more robust gym area.

Yeah, but the midtown location is superior. The reason I ask is because I canceled my gym membership and am looking for another one and would like to start climbing again as well...

I wanted to do both, but I made the mistake of taking my mom when it was below 70 deg outside.

M: It's so cold and windy.
R: It's really not that bad. Move it along,
M: Next time, let's leave earlier and pack a picnic with a couple bottles of wine.

:confused Hey, at least I get it honestly.
