I have a system right now with RCA's running from the head unit to amps in the trunk, which power all of my speakers. The thing is, I have a lot of RPM whine. I want to buy this (http://cgi.ebay.com/NOISE-FILTER-GROUND-LOOP-ISOLATOR-RCA-TYPE-CAR-AUDIO_W0QQitemZ9703023579QQcategoryZ32809QQrdZ1QQc mdZViewItem) to filter out the RPM whine, but where do I put this filter? In between the aforementioned RCA's and the amp?

It's not a filter. It is a ground loop isolator.

Ground loops can often be removed by improving your installation.

As to what will fix your problem, no one knows for sure, it takes troubleshooting. Sometimes it's the GLI behind the HU. Sometimes it's at the amp. Sometimes it's something else.

how are your amps grounded? I had a big problem with this until i grounded my h/u to the factory ground in the trunk with my amps

Fix your grounds.

Agreed. Ground your amps and your HU together in the trunk. According to the Bentley, there are six factory ground locations in the trunk, plus the battery ground location. Use whichever of these is most convenient and ground your amps and your HU there. A 12- or 14-gauge wire from the HU to the trunk is sufficient.

Also, it is a good idea to run a fused lead directly from the battery to the HU and bypass the factory harness for power and ground altogether.

Of course, keep your signal wires and power/ground wires as far from each other as possible.

Just curious, where are the other ones besides the Battery ground?

According to the Bentley, there are two on the parcel shelf (L & R), two at the front of the trunk (L & R), and two at the rear of the trunk (L & R.)

I've grounded my amps directly to the battery.

also check the remote wire, and make sure its not routed next to the speakerout puts of the amp. and dont use the factory ground of the headunit, as it is shared withother components. wire it directly to ground.

same here did you ground your headunit to the battery?

I could not imagine running such a long ground wire for the headunit...

It does seem to work, though...

We run a ground wire from the HU for every amp install we do. Every one.
