I got a new guy coming from Roadfly that wants to check out what we do. He says April 15 would be perfect (he lives in PA and will be up here that day). It is a Saturday.
OK tons of people said they were coming last time and didn't so I better see you at this one *cough VTBimmer *cough :mad
Here's the map:
http://www.numassmontring.com/numassimgs/maps.h10.jpghttp://www.immane.com/e107_images/nmmr/maps_nmmr.jpg
Meet at the Fieldhaus at RPI Saturday between 10:00 and 10:30. From there we will procede to a little German restaurant that I found about 20 minutes away for Brunch. From there we will hit up the Numassmontring.
Campus address is
1999 Burdett Ave
Troy, NY 12180
for those that want to mapquest it.

Then follow this map to the RED X

popsicle 03-27-2006, 08:37 PM too much driving in one weekend.
TeamStowell 03-27-2006, 08:40 PM OMG, you have picked the same day as the trip to the NY International Auto show. It is a go, with 50 free tickets allowing entry at 8:30am (opens to the public at 11:00) and a 47 person motor coach heading down heavily subsidized by the Patroon Chapter. If you keep this up TeamStowell will never make it on another run, unless that is your plan.....
s1ick 03-27-2006, 08:40 PM Damn I dont think I can make it to this. Im off that week and prolly wont make it to the fender rolling either. You biatches suck
Antrieb 03-27-2006, 08:48 PM Too bad because we posted this in 5 BMW forums. There are going to be like 30 BMW's! I can't wait.
Snarcher! 03-27-2006, 09:14 PM damn it, there needs to be more weekends in the month!

JClark 03-27-2006, 10:50 PM Sorry dudes, I'll most likely be in Richmond for Easter weekend.
Count me in for anything post-May.
Edit: Scratch that, the only way I'll be in NY that weekend is if the M3 breaks again. So lets hope I'm not there. :D
vtbimmer 03-27-2006, 11:16 PM WTF? I thought Jesse and Zac talked about this and thats why it was put together. Why would you call it JClark initiation drive without asking him if he can come first?:confused

Definatly cool that they come. They just need to get out of some of the BMW photoshoots :D
Snarcher! 03-28-2006, 04:47 PM i think it should be like
anything european can be in the photoshoots
anything else can just come for the drive.. :D
vtbimmer 03-28-2006, 07:20 PM Whatever. If you like to drive and have a presentable car, you are welcome to come and be in the pictures. Rusted out Subaru legacy's can stay home. As long as no one drives like a dick.
Snarcher! 03-28-2006, 07:43 PM Yea, we should definantly try out best to not get a bad rep... *cough benny doing donuts in north adams church lot with state trooper across teh street* :stickoutt

X Mon 03-28-2006, 09:21 PM So I was wondering why I need to be initiated? I mean what if I'm faster and smoother than all you all? What if I bring the party?
Oh...so that said, I think I may need a place to crash friday night into saturday, as I'll probalby leave PA at like 7 or 8 and get into the sespool that is Troy around 11ish. I don't wanta have to stay with the relatives so what's that leave me?

You could sleep in my room (I have a roomate, he's cool with it though) and I can sleep in my fraternity house.

One notes that I've said Yuengling, which when you are from the proper parts of this country means Premium.
One notes that I did not say Lager, Chesterfiled's, Black and Tan, Porter or Light.
Kids these days...just never gonna learn...
Antrieb 03-28-2006, 10:34 PM haha ok well my friend just bought me a 24 variety back of yungling and it had some nasty shit in there. Not bad for $12 though.

vtbimmer 03-28-2006, 10:44 PM X Mon, you may want to trim down your sig before a mod deletes it.

jsedlak 03-28-2006, 11:14 PM yay for sweet e36 pimp liking his sig!
http://images.immane.com/sigs/2006/sweete36pimp.jpg
vtbimmer 03-28-2006, 11:17 PM Now he needs to steal Benny's exhaust.
sweet e36 pimp 03-28-2006, 11:23 PM john, thanks again. the sig is right on the money.
i have a supersprint trackpipe now. there is many more gains with it over a catback. e36 obd1 midsection is very restrictive. i still need to bolt on my obd2 manifolds, and partially gut the inside of the catback benny gave to me. that oughtta hold me over until i can afford something pretty. i'll add some tips and paint it nice. it will sound pretty good i'm guessing. i got a pretty good idea on what im going to do with it.
bennyfizzle 03-28-2006, 11:28 PM plus DTM tips are gay :rolleyes :(
w/e i like em
and since i have an exhaust leak on the midpip or flange anyway, i might as well get the supersprint!

Antrieb 04-05-2006, 01:32 PM Excelent! Looks like you need some real tires on there, but I'm sure you already knew that.
Snarcher! 04-05-2006, 01:33 PM that things awsome!
does it those tubes of oil under the car that cool the engine instead of water/radiator? someone told me that one time.:shifty
j cookie 04-05-2006, 01:40 PM its oil/air cooled. infact the all 911s were air/oil cooled up to 1996 i believe. it is a dry sump oil system that pumps oil to the front of the car in order to cool the oil. LOL at the tire comment. ya the tires arnt the greatest but im saveing for new rims and tires soo sometime in the near future i hope. i just need to save up $3,500 bucks. oh yea, you guys think your oil changes are expensive, try having to remove and replace 12 quorts of oil. That sucks.

TeamStowell 04-05-2006, 04:39 PM You don't know how baddly we want to clone ourselves and go on this trip. We did find homes for all the Auto Show tickets and have 40 folks heading down on the bus, so at least this Patroon event is better attended that the Patroon Pancake Parade or the Green Mountain Southern Meeting.
Snarcher! 04-05-2006, 04:44 PM I still want to go if it rains that day, or is the bus packed? will you be playing the banjo on the way down singing songs?

All the early bird tickets are spoken for, but if you want to catch the bus down we probably have room for you. I find traveling with a harmonica is much more efficient...

vtbimmer 04-06-2006, 11:39 AM so do i get my very own numassmontring sig for completing this upcomming saturdays event?
Not this Saturday, next Saturday. Just to clarify. It has happened before. People ready to show up a weekend to early.
And yes to your question on the sig.:)
j cookie 04-06-2006, 11:50 AM yay for the siggy haha. Yea, i know know its not this saturday. So is this like a high speed run? either way thats cool. as long as we are out of state im good to go. if i get a ticket with points i might not be able to go to school. so out of state im good to go

Noooo. You missed the all out high speed runs. No more of that. We will be moving at a good pace but most of all obeying speed limits through towns and such. I will debrief the group before we depart. It is imperative that you bring a 2 way radio so you can communicate with the group and hear any special instructions.
j cookie 04-06-2006, 12:01 PM sounds good to me, i think i would cry if i got a ticket and was told that i cant go to uti! i have 2 way radios so that wont be an issue, i will see how many i have and ill bring extras.
vtbimmer 04-06-2006, 12:09 PM sounds good to me, i think i would cry if i got a ticket and was told that i cant go to uti! i have 2 way radios so that wont be an issue, i will see how many i have and ill bring extras.
Wait, wait, wait. Are you going to UTI also?
bennyfizzle 04-06-2006, 12:20 PM heh, i want to also now brent, any recommendations/tips/hints?
j cookie 04-06-2006, 12:21 PM yea, in june i start at uti in phoenix arizona for BMW school, goes 12 weeks then i go to somona califonia for jim russel racing mechanic school for a year. the next 2 years of my life are going to be consistant school with no breaks. im gunna be so burnt out.
vtbimmer 04-06-2006, 12:22 PM heh, i want to also now brent, any recommendations/tips/hints?
What are you talking about? UTI?
Im so confused.
Anyway I ordered this for extra insurance on the drives this summer.:D

Right on, Im going to UTI in N. Carolina in Dec. for the regular classes and then hopefully the BMW Step program. I was told the BMW Step program is only held in New Jersey. Maybe thats just the east coast. I wish I could do the whole thing in one place. So I take it you already completed the regular UTI courses?
Im in the same boat ticket wise. I got one last year that landed me in jail. First one ever. Now I have to be a good boy if I want to get into UTI.
j cookie 04-06-2006, 12:32 PM i did the first section of uti at hvcc. they are taking my credits from here and giving me credit at uti for them. so i paid a quorter of the price for the same thing. i apparetly and the only person that they know of to trasfer in. im not doing step because i dont want to be stuck with a dealership job. i am doing the fast track wich isnt as indepth but its starts you on your way and you get a couple certs from bmw saying you completed the course. my main goal is to work on race cars sooo dealership would not help me what so ever.

Well you wont get "stuck" with a dealership job per say. You are required to work at a dealership for 6 months after succesful completion of the step program. Either way its a sweet deal. I would like to work on race cars too but certainly wouldnt mind a dealer job. As long as either one is a secure, well paid job that I enjoy in a place that doesnt see snow, I'll be happy.
I just wish I did this 10 years ago. :eyecrazy
Snarcher! 04-06-2006, 01:03 PM on the drive me and brent just took, we were tailgating a mitsucrapshi 3000GT Vr-4 because it was going like 30 on a crazy back road, so we finnally pass it, and just as we were ready to kick up the speed to proper NMMR style, the road has so many frost heaves and dips i think we both broke our tailbones and shock mounts and we had to go like 20mph for the next 10 miles lol
vtbimmer 04-06-2006, 01:18 PM Yes, that sucked. Think the guy in the Mitsubishi knew what was up? LOL
Snarcher! 04-06-2006, 01:49 PM the VT road crew could have at least put up a freakin sign or something, we hit those at like 55!
oh so where do you want to meet and at what time in shefield? place?
j cookie 04-06-2006, 03:40 PM sounds like that part of the road is going to be a good time. faster you go the less you feel it right? haha
vtbimmer 04-06-2006, 03:52 PM We wont be hitting that road on this drive. That road is a shortcut and takes out Florida Mtn. and its just not the ring without Florida Mtn.
I would say meet at the Mcdonalds in Greenfield. You just stay on Rte 2 through Shelburn Falls. Mcdonalds is right before the rotary to get on Interstate 91. I would say meet there no later than 9:00am if we want to make it before 11:00

jasona 04-06-2006, 04:28 PM I don't know how married you guys are to the route but rte 116 between rte 112 (Ashfield) and rte 5. (Deerfield) is probably the best driving road out here in western Mass AND it was just repaved last summer (its about a 15 minute detour from the current route). The other top drive is the climb to the summit of mount holyoke (in Hadley) but that is another 30 minutes south.

Do you think it would be hard for her to keep up?
I'm assuming that there is probably a slower group that hangs out in the back, right? I don't want to change your plans so if it's not a good idea, she'll just ride with me.
Also, when should we expect to be done with the whole thing?

Ok for one thing we don't mind if non-german cars drive with us, they just can't be in the photos we take.
Does your friend realize that we are going to be driving for over 4 hours? Tell her to seriously think about it because it takes a dedicated person (us) to be able to drive that distance withought a real purpose.
Generally we all stay as one pack and only slow down to wait for people if there is a redlight issue or something like that.
Last of all, she is driving a stock celica wich maybe has the power of a stock 325e which we don't even have. Even if another driver was driving it they might have a hard time keeping up. It's not only the speed either, there are many advanced sections of the drive which require a lot of focus and timing in the twisties.

We will not be going fast enough where someone cant keep up. I will be leading the pack and if you think I go too slow then by all means, pass me and see if you can find your way. No tailgating and no bullshit. We will have fun but this will be controlled. As a side note I just returned from the UCONN car show and went on part of the ring. The part that shoots up Rte 112 from Mass to VT. Yeah, I cant believe it but I saw a cop for the first time ever where I usually think its safe to hit high speed, so I will definately be taking it easy. I cant afford another ticket more than anyone on this board.
Hope to see everyone this weekend!

Antrieb 04-09-2006, 11:18 PM My point is that I don't mind her driving it as long as she doesn't mind driving for that long, but being in pictures is a different story. I thought we already decided that in photoshoots there would only be euros and maybe some other exceptions. Remember .Kevin. had a Taraus wagon and he was going to go but not be in the pictures?
Just my .02
For one, I don't care what people drive, anyone is welcome to come. Of course anyone can keep up, if you can drive the speed limit, you can keep up, simple as that. When I hosted a cruise last year (Brent was there) we stopped a lot and made sure the whole group was making correct turns/etc, we only lost one person once, and I don't quite remember how that happened, I think he didn't know where exactly we were going to eat or something like that, and went to the wrong place. It was not as a result of going fast/etc. But it's all good.
As far as pictures go, I take 3 different types of pictures:
1: All Cars! Included is All People!
2: Specific groups of cars, eg: all red cars, all german cars, all bmw's, etc...
3: My car.
If you wanna rock a Mini van, I think that's pretty sick. We've had minivans at events before, they're good parts haulers. And I don't shy away from getting shots of them either. To me, 30% of the fun of these is the driving, I can drive these roads whenever I want, and I can drive them at my own pace. 50% is the people, and the more the merrier! The final 20% is the sort of insane/ridiculous things you tend to see on events like this, like people making completely off the wall comments in public places and getting strange looks, people staring as you roll on past (takes at least 5 nice looking cars for average people to take notice, less for the car nuts of the world). And just other fun shit.
Also, seriously guys, don't knock the e motor. That's what I have right now and I have a few experiences that suggest that an eta can do its part to move along pretty well. If you need proof, shoot me a PM. Speed is more than quarter mile and top speed alone.
jsedlak 04-09-2006, 11:25 PM heh well put ATMH.
And I just love seeing expressions on peoples faces as they realize all the cars going by are not just random people but a connected line of one make. The first drive we went on we drove by these two girls walking on the side of the road and they totally flipped out everytime lol...
vtbimmer 04-09-2006, 11:27 PM My point is that I don't mind her driving it as long as she doesn't mind driving for that long, but being in pictures is a different story. Nobody agreed on that.:confused The last time you mentioned it I responded the same. How bout you can park by yourself and have your own photoshoot. k?
I remember one cruise I did, we had like ~15 cars and were all pulling out of a gas station onto a busy road, as a spur of the moment thing, I "blocked" a lane of traffic so that we could all go together. The people I blocked didn't seem to mind, and it kept us all as one group (it helped that everyone was in their car and all lined up at the exit to move out, so it only took like 30 seconds.)
They didn't like it when a mile or two later some of the people in the group decided to block an intersection so we could all get through after a traffic light turned red. I was a lot less impressed with that since that is illegal. It sucked the most too because I was the last car through, I had angry looks and people honking and such. I mean, it wasn't THAT bad, I've been a part of charity motorcycle rides where actual police officers blocked intersections for us (we're talking like ~50 motorcycles or more), but it still wasn't really that cool...
Snarcher! 04-09-2006, 11:46 PM we need all the girls we can get.. let the drive isuzu pups with campers on the back for all i care lol

He absolutely does. No worries.
I stand with Brent.
BMW Elitest attitude is the suck.
/Begin rant on the bmw elitest attitude, what it's like to own a bmw in this world, and why I bought a bmw:
My BMW Elitest attitude goes this far: I really like my car, and as a result, I like BMW.
I got friends with a plethora of cars, VW's, Honda's, Subaru's, it's all good. I never knew how much fun a Civic could be until I drove one, and the Subaru 'rex wagon is a really nice car with a lot of go.
I actually try to do my best to be the least assholeish as possible while driving my car. I always yield to pedestrians, in heavy traffic I tend to let people go who are trying to merge, stuff like that. And I always in company talk my car down. People say to me sometimes "wow, that must have cost a lot" and I say "actually, it was $500, and it needed a lot of work. It's still got issues, but it's a good car and fun to drive, and has never left me stranded." Hell, when people ask questions about my car I avoid saying it's a BMW, and if I am forced to, I always mention that it's an '84 and it has it's problems.
Before I ever owned a BMW, I thought BMW drivers were jerks. Look what I've become. Now I do my best to avoid the stigma associated with BMW's. I'm not going to deny that part of the reason I bought my car was that it was a BMW. I remember in middle school talking to a friend and saying "when I grow up I'm going to drive a BMW!"
After owning my car for like 3 months, I had realized quite a few things:
1: a BMW is a car. It is not some magical device. It is a car, just like any other car. In the case of the e30, it is a very well built, fun to drive car.
2: Driving a BMW doesn't get a loser like me laid. The whole bullshit about BMW drivers having more sex, I dunno what that's all about, though I suspect the case is that people who have a lot of sex like BMW's, not that BMW's get their drivers laid. I don't know why BMW's appeal to the sexaholics of the world.
3: Most of the time, people don't give a shit that I drive a BMW, the rest of the time is a pretty even split between it giving them a good/bad impression.
4: If there was more of a selection of practical, well built, reliable, inexpensive, great handling, sporty rear wheel drive sedans, there is a good chance I would have got something else. As it stands, for those out there that just want a practical car that is rear wheel drive, what other options are there?
/end rant on the bmw elitest attitude, what it's like to own a bmw in this world, and why I bought a bmw. Hope you enjoyed it!
jsedlak 04-10-2006, 03:16 AM I agree... I really hate talking about my car too, because all my friends, when they found out I got a BMW, were like DUDE YOU HAVE A BMW!? And I just love seeing expressions on peoples faces as they realize all the cars going by are not just random people but a connected line of one make. The first drive we went on we drove by these two girls walking on the side of the road and they totally flipped out everytime lol...
Try putting 3iXes in a line and driving them around....
jsedlak 04-10-2006, 05:03 PM tss tss american muscle; john, i'm ashamed. :rofl
and japanese? they couldn;t make more than 100hp/liter in they tried :rolleyes
(sheer sarcasm, almost every performance oriented honda motor makes +100hp/liter, and we won't even get started on the wankel rotary :shifty)
oh comon, you know you could never put down the chance to drive a 1000bhp turbo'd V10 Viper, with a transmission so big you need to shift your legs to the left. And so much torque your balls will get twisted just from the fear of what the driveshafts are going through...
Snarcher! 04-10-2006, 05:40 PM Well the accord was ugly...
not according to the guy i sold it to, he was jumping and dancing as if he found an e30 M3 sport evo in mint condition for 500 bucks or something lol, he was like DUDEE i cant thank you enough this car is BEAUTIFYULLLL lol i was just like uh...
bennyfizzle 04-10-2006, 05:49 PM oh comon, you know you could never put down the chance to drive a 1000bhp turbo'd V10 Viper, with a transmission so big you need to shift your legs to the left. spreading legs, twisting balls, fearful shafts...sounds like a tuesday night in john's dorm :rofl
jsedlak 04-10-2006, 05:50 PM In my defense, she had it coming... :rofl
TeamStowell 04-10-2006, 05:58 PM Yeah I hear ya, but I'm not sure you represent the group as a whole. :stickoutt
If I may chime in, I welcome all makes, models and modes of transportation. As membership chair for the Patroons, I constantly get the question about allowing a non-bimmer owner to join the club. Absolutly join us! Come one, come all, and enjoy the miracle that is the automobile!:)
Snarcher! 04-10-2006, 06:16 PM i definently want to get some euro'd out golfs to come with us from VWVortex. its like the e30's cousin.

Antrieb 04-10-2006, 06:48 PM There is a VW Coradda (sp?) in the Fieldhaus parking lot that could come
sweet e36 pimp 04-10-2006, 07:31 PM if you want v-dubs i could get you plenty to show up if you wanted. remember, i was a vw guy before i bought my bimmer.
*Corrado.
I'll make a post about this NMMR drive in the New England GTG thread on the 'tex :)
vtbimmer 04-10-2006, 07:45 PM Well I do it everytime a drive is planned so why should this one be any different.
Rain in the forcast for Saturday.
http://www.weather.com/weather/wxdetail/05356?dayNum=5
And here is where Snarcher comes in with his sunny Albany forecast.;)
Come on Snarch, dont let me down!

So you made a post about it on the 'tex?
How about Massdriven? If not I'll make a post there as well. (note: who knows what kind of cars we'll end up with from there, since that's a non-manufacturer specific site)

No no, I meant everytime a drive is planned I post the crappy rainy weather report. Cause it seems to want to rain everytime we try and organize a drive. Sorry for the confusion. :embarrasm
vtbimmer 04-10-2006, 07:58 PM Oh and Massdriven has some sketchy people. I would love it if the guys from the western mass. vortex drive we took would come. I want to see Elliots jetta again. Hasnt he done some crazy stuff to it since?
I dunno, I don't check up much on forums these days, and the 'tex is low on my list.
So is that a 'no' to a post on Massdriven? All the guy's I know from Massdriven will see it on the 'tex anyways, so it's not like I'll be missing anyone in particular :)
Here is post on the 'tex: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2194577&page=27
Feel free to make a seperate thread, since only like 10 guys ever check that thread.

Kevin E21 04-10-2006, 08:06 PM My point is that I don't mind her driving it as long as she doesn't mind driving for that long, but being in pictures is a different story. I thought we already decided that in photoshoots there would only be euros and maybe some other exceptions. Remember .Kevin. had a Taraus wagon and he was going to go but not be in the pictures?
Just my .02
I have a Taruas SHO, it's not a wagon. Its not anything special now, but back in the day it was one of the best performance sedans. Atleast anything that would come out of America. It has a Yamaha engine and a 5spd transmission made by Mazda.
Anyways, I will not be attending this drive, I am too busy with school, and the car needs work. I would hope that you guys allow non-bmws though, cause I want to come on a drive at some point. As for the Celica, atleast it is somewhat sporty, and not just a minivan or SUV. It's not just about the cars, its about driving with buddies and having a good time, as ATMH mentioned.
Hell you guys should take it as a compliment that lots of people want to come on drives. All the ford clubs are the elitest type and think AMERICAN Muscle all the way. I'd rather hang with a bunch of BMW guys and have some fun, than a bunch of stuck up Ford mustang owners. So don't make the NMMR group seem like a elitest type.
As for pictures, you could always do a couple shot with just the BMWs, but have others that include everyone.
Anyways, thats just my insight on the whole discussion. I haven't been to active on here, but I will check in once and a while, and let you guys know when I can come on a drive.
you should put the ford SHO motor into a Festiva...that would be the bees knees.
Then you could call it something witty, like SHOgun :)
Edit: and to add to the previous topic: We could use more girls at these things, so yeah, she is definately welcome to come in her Celica! Girls interested in these sorts of things are good in my book!
She prolly just wants to go to check out all the hott guys...
Deadphan 04-10-2006, 08:29 PM Man, I wish I could go. Why couldn't it be on Sunday. :(

Yeah. It is an extremely fun car, and a definate sleeper. The cars coming out now have more HP, but they don't have the torque that the SHO has. I am always messing with tailgaters.
I like to pretend it's an ///M5.:evil2

It was mainly because they wanted to offer something to compete with the European sports sedans. I really am not sure why they chose the Yamaha engine, but I think it's pretty badass. The Mazda parts (mainly the tranny) was used because they had such a close relationship with them. (Now Ford owns Mazda)
I don't know if Yamaha makes any other car engines, but they make a lot of stuff. I mean they makes bikes, electronics, instruments, etc. So I guess they just make whatever they want.
I don't want this thread to get too off topic, lol. Sorry.

that "blown" shogun is the supercharged one, right?
I've seen that up close and personal, some local guy owns it now (I think it's a recent purchase on his part).
Not the only completely sick nasty car he has either...
...The other day I parked my car next to an Ultima GTR...it looked so tall and so skinny (the e30) and it has a 2" drop in the front. Next to most cars my car looks sleek and low.
P.S.: aren't I a numassmontring newb? ;)
Edit: Tsk-tsk, Antrieb knocking me down to take his place on the main page list...sigh. (btw: I don't care, I'd rather not be #1 on the list anywho since it's not my event, I just took the initiative to start the tally)
Antrieb 04-11-2006, 12:49 AM No hard feelings :)
And no you aren't a NMMR noob because you've driven it. Oliver has only riden in it.
there is actually a section that I don't think I've driven, the rt 7 section going into Albany I don't think I am familiar with. I am intimately familiar with the section within Massachusetts and around the NY border. I've driven the Berlin Loop and Rt 2 into Albany. I've taken 112 up into Vermont and then driven over into Bennington and sections of Rt 7. But I've never done the whole thing, and I've never done it as a single cruise :)
As a side note: I just got new tie rods, will be needing an alignment before this event for sure.
bennyfizzle 04-11-2006, 03:07 AM yeah that rt 7 section is generally a cool down/depressing part of the drive where you know the inevitable parting of ways is coming up, but everyone going north can still have some fun, all thr RPI guys stay in troy, but generally we have a quick jaunt up alt 7 on the way to 87...fun fun fun

I am game for doing the reservoir at the end of the run, it is a nice soothing bit around the lake and if we get there around the right time it will look nice with teh sunset
