I'm looking to buy a preowned X5. I'm thinking of using our BMW mechanic as he is a dealer as well. I'd like to know what X5 years have performed well, and which ones performed poorly.
I'm looking at the 3.0 with a cold weather package, nav, and sport package.
I'm probably looking at the 2003 as these leases are coming back in.
Please share you positive and negative experiences.

I had a 2001 3.0. Hardly any problems considering it was one of the earliest X5 3.0s made. The biggest problem I had was failing window regulators (typical of BMW & Mercedes). 3 were changed under warranty. A 2003 should have most of the bugs (if there was any) cleared out.
