View Full Version : Think WC is close racing? Check this out.
krisko 03-26-2006, 08:36 PM I guess this is some spec Elise series in the UK. I'm not sure whether the guy is insane or a genius? I guess since the car stays upright then that makes him a genius.

Steve J. 03-26-2006, 09:14 PM Apparently SCCA does not think its very close racing :)
Nice find though, looks like Pro SM...
Jmabarone 03-27-2006, 02:48 AM that was one hell of a driver! oh, and it is in Austrailia, Bathurst, to be exact.
Jake
jdholder 03-27-2006, 03:29 AM Holy Crap!! :devillook
332 RustBucket 03-27-2006, 09:03 AM wow, that is some crazy shiet! How can he be THAT much better than everyone in the series? :dunno
maranelloman 03-27-2006, 09:20 AM That was an inverted grid race. Top drivers started at the back. He was obviously the best, which is why the speed differential got greater & greater as he cut thru more & more of the field.
Bane2871 03-27-2006, 02:10 PM Holy door-to-door racing, batman. That had a high sphincter value just watching.
I can't imagine actually being in that race.
JuliusPleaser 03-27-2006, 04:25 PM Impressive video. :eyecrazy
The guy probably has a few hundred Bathhurst laps under his belt.
Ya that guys is pretty sick. Isn't Bathurst in Australia though? Judging by the holden signs.

It certainly is. We were talking about the Sports Car Club of Australia, weren't we :stickoutt
B.Watts 03-29-2006, 12:25 PM Those of you guys who have stuck to running 13/13 racing to this point, I would SERIOUSLY encourage you to go rent/race a Spec Miata during a big SCCA weekend (50 plus car fields). You'll learn what racing and racecraft are all about no matter where you are in the field. It's a totally different (and extremely enjoyable) game.
krisko 03-29-2006, 02:48 PM Maybe it's enjoyable if a fender costs $60. BMW fenders costs a little more than that...racing is not a contact sport, for me anyways.
B.Watts 03-29-2006, 03:02 PM No need for contact in close racing. Sure, it happens sometimes, but it's not a requirement (except, perhaps, for bump drafting on the straights, but that doesn't do any damage :)).
The point is just to get outside of the DE racing atmosphere that makes up a lot of the 13/13 racing. You don't need to hit someone, but it's nice to be able to race within 3-4 inches and really dive into a corner together without worrying about losing your license if you happen to touch a bit.
It's just a different atmosphere that is worth experiencing. It will expand your level of comfort and help you add more tools to your racecraft toolbox. I'm not suggesting that you go out and try to run into folks for fun.
krisko 03-29-2006, 03:07 PM I'm actually fairly agressive with cars in my class. If two closely matched cars are being well driven, a ballsy move will be required if you really want to win.
I can't say I've felt a DE atmosphere in the racing I've done. Inevitably someone will complain after a race or a session...perhaps those guys should stick to DEs.
JuliusPleaser 03-29-2006, 04:37 PM Those of you guys who have stuck to running 13/13 racing to this point, I would SERIOUSLY encourage you to go rent/race a Spec Miata during a big SCCA weekend (50 plus car fields). You'll learn what racing and racecraft are all about no matter where you are in the field. It's a totally different (and extremely enjoyable) game.
The first SM event I saw had 62 cars entered. :eyecrazy
I'd like to try that class before I die. Looks like big (and cheap) fun.
Steve J. 03-29-2006, 05:37 PM I'm hoping to be renting a SM for atleast 1-2 races this season. As Bryan said, its a great experience I want to have under my belt and even if its fighting with the other not-so-great prepared mid to back runners (possibly other SM rental guys) thats great. I think racing shiftkarts gave me some idea of tight racing, but SM is a great crossover into getting in very close range with tintops.
krisko 03-29-2006, 08:48 PM What's the cost of renting an SM?
