I have seen the tranny chip mentioned a lot.

what exactly does it do?

I have a 97 840 with 70k miles. I have driven it about 1600 miles over the past month.
does not shift as crisp as i might expect from this car.

my first thought was to take to delaer to have tranny serviced, fluid change, etc.
but what about a chip? will the dealer do that, or is it strictly aftermarket?
is it ez to do?
will it work if i don not have an engine chip (I understand my 97 is not chipable anyway)?

thanks!

ps. Terry. you "da Man"!

The transmission chip will sharpen regular shifts a bit.

Raises the shift points in S by about 1000 rpm at mid throttle.

My 840 (pre-Steptronic 5 speed with Dinan trans chip) shifts at 7000 at full throttle.

The dealer probably will not do a fluid change before 100k miles. His book says it is Lifetime Fluid and so does ZF. About $600 US if they do it-Special fluid is $20 to $30 per liter:eek:

I second on the Tranny fluid change. I changed mine at around 95K miles. I also have the DINAN Tranny Chip but it only acts in Sport and Manual mode.

Yup dude and thank you (that was not my best run either). I thought I saw you a couple of times too. Next time you see my car come and say hi. I could use some more autocrossing tips.
