Hey guys,
My car wont start all of a sudden. I ran the code check and there were no faults. The engine cranks strong but wont fire. All fusses are good. Any ideas?
Any help is much appreciated,

Check the Fuel pump / relay or maybe crank sensor.

hey rob thanks for reply. do you know which relay is the fuel pump? And wouldn't I have gotten a fault code on either fuel pump or crank sensor?
thanks,
Mats

you can look at your fuse box - the fuses are labeled as to their function. This would not set off a code.
I assume you don't have an alarm...

Hey thumper,
Yes, I do have an alarm but I dont think its the problem. The alarm's engine kill function would not allow power through to the starter, in this case starter is cranking as it should. And on the fuse box cover only the fuses are labeled but not relays.
Thanks,
Mats

see if you have any fuel pressure by the schrader valve on the fuel rail.

i just got the same prob to deal with... mine's a 96 328is.. Checking the fuel pressure....? Just push down the valve to see if there's pressure?
And the relay --- how do u test that? DMM? Resistance?

fuel pressure - the valve is just like a tire valve. Push in the center, and gas should squirt out (wear safety glasses and no smoking)
relay - you can touch it while you cycle the key, and should feel (or hear) it click. Alternatively, you need to remove it, enregize the coil and check continuity across output terminals. You need the schematic to verify contact and wire definitions. If you know what you are doing, you can bypass the relay (short across with paper clip), but you better get the right terminals. You can slo pull the rear seat, and check right at the in-tank fuel pump. Again, either by feel or sound. Or you can use a DVOM on the pump. Checking at the pump is obviously the best, because if it has voltage, than everything upstream (fuse, relay, wiring, ignition) is working.

ignition switch???
when a car doent start its cause of electrical or fuel related problems.
check both and you will find the cause.

if you dont know what you are doing then u have to be carefull not to fcuk something else. have the tech tell you whats wrong then for the diy you can fix the problem yourself.
