Beautiful work mike! Do you have any clearance issues with the piping? Where'd you move your AC to, and you think that piping would work with a car w/ an X-Brace?

i looked at your piping looks awesome.

i am looking at jegs/jcwhitney/summit racing at their U bends, J bends, 90 degree bends and so forth..

how many of each bend type did you use? and what piping diameter? i am wanting to go with 2.5 in

I just relocated my AC condenser a bit to clear the piping. It should clear no problem.

The hot side is 2.5", Cold side is 3".

If you look at the pics you should be able to figure the approximate bends. I used a pile of 90's, 45's, and J bends in 304 SS. I get my bends from McMaster Carr:

Looks like a pretty good deal for all the bends, etc. Make sure the welder is comfortable welding thin aluminum like that.

I cut my compressor housing and welded a 90 degree bend to simplify piping from the turbo to the IC. If your IC has 3" inlets you will need some sort of reducers to go to 2.5". You should be able to do it with that piping if you plan carefully, but it will be close.

really you think i need MORE piping to be safe?

my intercooler inlets are 2.5 and my turbo outlet is 2.5 as well..

do you recomend going 3in for cold side?

right now its going to be 2.5 in cold and hot side

Was the slight reduction in diameter in that one bend necessary?

Pretty!

MY exhust iss the samething, full ss 3'' with full v band conection, track pipe for the track or street races which i change in minutes. the car is ready to make big power, i am in the process of building a 3.2 m3 engine 4 it right now,

Padu wins.. man, those welds:eek:

How much is the ribbed fuel rails?

How much do you charge for piping work?

How much do you charge for piping work?

Seriously.

I know with all the various manifold/intercooler combinations it's impossible to make a bolt on kit, but do you think you could replicate that and sell it? That would be a hell of a lot nicer than a) other offerings and b) starting from scratch.

off topic, but is that a magnaflow muffler on the back? and if so what tip do you weld on to the back of it??

im working on a custom exhaust for my e30 m3 and i can't find a single good looking dual tip on a Y pipe like that. everything ive found is designed for 2.25" piping. is that a 3" exhaust?

any links or information about that tip?

FYI

Yes it takes good welding skills to produce quality pieces like that. But what makes or breaks pieces like that is a fitter who should be sent to an institution!! ;)

The beauty in all those pieces is all due to an undieing attention to detail and massive patience in the fitting process. I am in awe...........I dont have fitting patience that it takes to produce things like that. You can't have 1/16" gaps and make things like that. I on the other hand......am a pro at filling. :(

You welders out there know what i mean.

:(

Takes a good belt grinder, steady hand and a good eye too. :)

Superb work Padu!

Ask him how he became such a good fitter. And how much time did it take to fit all those pieces.........

Padu what tools did you use to fit all your pipes?

mike radowski
03-17-2006, 12:53 PM
Yes, I can weld like that as well, but the tubing needs to be cut and fit perfectly so you don't use filler rod. If someone pays me to do it, I will. Otherwise, forget it! That is how you get a seam that looks like the ones pictured. Nice work, I like your custom tight radius bend for the TB. I redid my IC piping after I removed the ASC butterfly and housing. It is basically the exact location as yours, but with a tight radius mandrel bend.

Check the Vibrant Mufflers catalog. I bought from them for my 325 E30 M3 motor, a very nice s.s 3" inlet and dual 2.5" oultlet for about $145.00. Very nice sound also.

I actually just ordered a Vibrant 3" inlet, outlet with dual 3" tips for $140cdn. Won't be here for 4-6weeks, but I wanted to get something other than magnaflow for once. Item #1043.

I love my bend to the hb we call it the lobster tail bend, I donrt weld by trade. It is all in the cutting of the pipes, if the fit is just right u dont need that much weld. I should have done them in alloy. next time
