Today on my way into work i noticed a red boxster coming up on me fast, it was mid day and warm so its top was down and i noticed two head's in the car. I slowed to let it catch up and it pulled right next to me, a young man with a young women ( good looking : ) in his passenger seat. He began to taunt me and play, so i bite, we both drop gear and i pull very hard on him, i was quirte shocked at how quickly i pulled away from him, he stayed at my rear through 3rd and when i hit 4th i gained about 1-2 car length's on him! i was very impressed with my car and let out a WOOOOHOOOO!!! i shut down at a little over 100 and took the next exit, he took the same exit and we pulled to the stop light together, i rolled down my window to be friendly and he just staired straight ahead, with sunglasses and all, well it wasnt a total loss because the cutie in the passenger seat gave me a friendly wave!
I was expecting more from a boxster S, but it was a fun race!

Very nice kill! I agree with Quest330, I hate it when after a race people look the other way and dont aknowledge you.

I have a similiar story with beating a boxter S. Only my race was from stop to about 70. I had about 1 car length on him. Good kill... :)

But in talking to some Porsche enthusiasts, they were QUITE pissed off at the Boxster S, hell, the whole Boxster series. They said it is VERY underpowered, and doesn't live up to the Porsche name. Although, these individuals also believe Porsche's foray into the SUV arena is departing from the original vision of Porsche as well....so, take it at that...

But, I drove a Boxster S... and no offense to anyone that owns one, but, for THAT price -- I was expecting ALOT more. I would definitely choose something else. It was not as fun as my 325is --
just my two cents. I would definitely buy a relatively new S2000 and force feed that baby before dropping the bucks for a Boxster S........

The Boxster S handles very well. Porsche is in a predicament. The car has spurred sales of P-Cars tremendously and made healthy contributions to the bottom line. But they very, very much have to be careful of letting that car get anywhere close to vanilla 911 performance.

The car is light at about 2800 lbs (I believe and with 250 HP it ought to eat E36 M3's for lunch. But it does have that performance handicap to keep it from getting too close to the holy grail.

Nice kill! I actually would've thought that the Boxster S would pull a little on the M3. I can definitely see where Porsche wouldn't want the Boxster S to be in the same ballpark performance-wise as the 911 Carrera. Although, if they upped the power on the S, they'd sell more, and make up the difference in lost 911 sales. :dunno

To add to what Jim was saying about the Boxster.
I hate to play the devils advocate or take glory away from the killers here, but the Boxster S should not be underestimated...

The S you raced must have been tiptronic, because I had raced one with my 95 M3 with software, light pulley, headers, Dinan intaked and Cat back from 0 to 80 and he stayed dead even and actually pulled a hair on me. My M3 at the time was significantly faster than stock 3.2 liter m3s too. I pushed the M to limit so it was power not driver. I raced another S when supercharged that time I pulled 2 cars on him. But I also had 350HP!!!

I would tend to believe that those cars were not fully pushed.

if that is the case -- that the boxster S has not been pushed, why does it seem that many porsche enthusiasts are disgruntled over the boxster series?

Or perhaps I need to speak to more boxster owners? There are 5 owners where I live and 3 co-workers on my floor have them, 2 of them have the Boxster S... they said if they had to do it over again, they would have purchased the M3 cabrio, or something else.

a few weeks ago, at Thunderhill, I was talking with a guy that had a Boxter S. He had done some engine tweeks about $10k. I know that he had an exhaust but dont know what internals he did. Anyway at the track he could not pass me. we were dead even on the straight up to about 120. He probably could have passed in the twisties but that was not allowed.

When i had gone to the autoX school conducted by the Porsche club, i heard a couple of the Porsche owners calling the boxster the bastard child of Porsche :D

and i HATE sore losers, at least acknowledge that you have lost !!

"The S you raced must have been tiptronic..."

Im not stock but im not heavily moded, and it was a stick because at the intersection he had rollback when the light turned green, so maybe he wasnt the best driver, but i was still impressed with my car's performance.

Well I don't think any Porsche is cheap... but relatively speaking, compared to the 911 the Boxster is a bargain.

You said you "you immediately pulled on him"
A car that has a 2852 curb weight and 250 HP will not just drop back when you hit the gas. You would need to do a lot of work, and the difference would be minimal with the light mods you have unless.... He was a moron driver... hehe You obviously were the better driver!

I think Boxster owners will always be in the shadow of the 911 Cabrio. Period. They will always be a step behind.

The guy that I raced knew what he was doing. When I spoke to him at the next taffic light, he said he had a 97 M3 he wanted to sell. I asked if the S was quicker he said "absolutely". Granted my M3 was far from stock...

Most of the newer Porsche owners don't know how to drive. They own the cars just for show, and never explore the upper ranges of the rev band.

But you have your occasional exception, that will shock the hell out of you.

Just curious, what kind of aftermarket does the Porsche Boxster have? I tried doing a quick search but couldn't find anything useful.
