With comparable suspension mods, and considering its size, power and 2750 curb weight, the mini S should fare a bit better than the E36 which weighs a good 3,200lbs.
Man I wish my car wasn't such a pig.
Although, the mini is very front heavy... How will that affect it being it is FWD?

Is this for fun on the street or for racing?
If racing, what class, what level of prep? At least for autocross, in every case except stock classes (arguable), I'd pick a 325.
Auto-X'ing... not too modified.. Something like DS.

They're not in the same stock class.. For stock, get an MCS with limited slip for GS.
No kidding thats what I thought. My friend and I were arguing back and forth on wat class they are in.
Anyways, for the sake of knowledge, lets say both rides are bassically stock but have coilovers, and camber plates.

If both cars were in an ST class where such mods were legal, the BMW would, imo, be quicker. e36 bmws have a lot of weight to lose in those classes where you can replace seats and batteries, and as power to weight ratios go up, RWD becomes more and more of an advantage.
Can't go wrong with either car though.

Every Mini I've seen in club racing is litterally a rolling chicane, I've had two friends hit one just trying to get around them.
This has no bearing on the speed of the car vs. a 325 but I though I'd chime in.

Honestly, I don't think a Mini needs coil-overs or camber plates... they are great handling cars in stock form. Any suspension mods had better be friggin good or else it won't be worth your effort.
My wife has an 05 MCS and it is very fun to drive. Granted, its not going to turn in like my M3 (and I would assume a highly modified 325 could be just as good), but GREAT balance/compromise for a street car.
If you are looking for dedicated race (non-street) car, get the 325 because its cheaper. These cars are not even in the same price category (with the mini's holding their value really well and being much newer).
I'm sure you can have a blast in either car.
As for competition, pick your class before considering any mods.
