Hello All, what a great forum! Fast4d said to search this forum and I did and there nothing. I’m hoping you guys can help? I need help in changing the LIFETIME OIL yey right and LIFETIME FILTER in my automatic trans & transfer case. I was many moons ago a Mercedes, Volvo, Porsche tech. Passet VW & Audi tried to pull the same bull as well. I now run Redline Synthetic in that trany the car trany is perfect with over 90,000

if you have less than 75k miles, I wouldn't worry about it, but the trans fluid is determined by the generation engine you got, if it's the M62 engine the trans fluid is the esso atf lt 71141, if you have the N62 engine ( new 4.4 like in the 745's) it would be the m1357.4 fluid fpr 6HP26Z transmissions.

Thank you for the response teilmeister, concerning the oil type that’s not a problem finding. (How do I add back the new oil and check its level.) I would never run any kind of trans fluid for 75,000 miles. There is no such thing as life time oil. All brands of oil will condense water eventually and deteriorate the inside of any good sealed transmission. The dealers love’s replacing those old tried tranys with life time oil. I am keeping my X5 for a very long time. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

You guys are a great help. I was under the impression that the transmission service was similar to VW, Porsche and Audi. NO fill plug must pump back through drain hole and be very careful not to over fill, then heat trany and check again it’s a lot of work but worth it.
The X5 will be a piece of cake...thank you

Are you referring to Engine oil or Transmission either get it changed ASAP. As far as the bolt goes trying using: AS A LAST RESORT a super (gnarly) pair of vise grips. Tighten the vise grip as hard as you can, an be very carful to turn the nut level. Don’t push up or down be perfect when turning. :redspot
