View Full Version : Street races tonight....Roush Stg III goes down...Supras and Saleens galore
Phanta-Z 09-29-2002, 05:18 AM Damn what a night. I had a chick with me from work, we go out every now and again. Shes bangin hot and loves to go fast. So anyway we're at a little get together at a friend of mines. Its time for the nightly beer restocking so before it got too late i rolled up to the Arboretum. Now normally this shoppin center is pretty shady to be hangn at with lots of fast cars. But when we rolled through there it was a heavenly sight:....4 Saleens (two heavily modded 500+ rwhp....two stock), an S-trim packin Fox body, S-trim equipped 95 GT....a 67 Camaro that was just out of nowhere and so sick. It was candy apple red, had a 4 in cowl hood and tubbed rear end.....and was whining like only a Weiland can. I never taked to the owner but it was a stunning car. And for all you import fans (of which there were plenty but they stayed off to the sides a bit) a genuine single turbo Supra (T66 550 rwhp on race gas). And it looked it every bit. So i roll up and spoted my quarry. Silver Roush Stg III 6 spd. A local kid drives it, maybe 19 or so. Ive seen him on the street several times so i knew his car. We agreed to go out on the local interstate and go from a 50 roll, him spotting me the bump according to him. OK. There we are 10 min later, two spotter cars behind, both friends of his, out on the highway. As im coming up on 50 slow, i get to about 45 and he nails it. Fuk that shit. He offeres me the bump then takes it!! So here we go, me a hood down. Ever so slowly i edge back up, hit third and pull ahead a nose, then begin steady pullin from there. By the end of 4th he was so far back (at least 1 full car between his front and my rear bumper) i had time to signal my blinker to an upcoming car in my lane and slide over (like the blinker does any good at 120 mph :D ). The chick with me is gigglin the whole time, i just stay into it then finally slow down he blows by me then brakes, we exchange thumbs up, and head back to the meeting spot. Anywho we get back and every one is around my car mumbling about Nitrous and such. I pop the hood and trunk and let em have a look. Of course nothing. Just a big hunk of LS1. Come to find one of the nasty Saleens laid a harsh whoopin on the Supra and was lookin for a piece of the 67 Camaro. It was time to be gettin on back, beer stilll to be bought and drunk. But it was a night i wont soon forget.....i havent seen that many sick-nasty cars in one place in a long time. Oh and not to leave out the Bimmers, there was a very nice representation in the form of a spotless and well modded E36 M3, Silver with nice 18" rims of some sort, and body kit to match (very tasteful). Well ive bored yall for long enough. Had to vent. Peace.
SilverSS 09-29-2002, 08:25 AM Oh shit man, what a night!! Way to reprsent the F-bodys! I am surprised you did not have more of a prob with your race! I guess your car is also sick as hell. I wish I can run into a meet like that. They have one every Thursday night, but 90% imports, and i mean Civis and such. And when you Pull out of parking lot with a few guys following, on of the 10 police cars parked across the street follows:mad: :321 :flipa:
Phanta-Z 09-29-2002, 08:41 PM Yeah i think i suprised a couple of people by pullin on that Roush...especially as much as i did. When i got back they kept tryin to egg me on to race one of those Saleens.....i was like uhhh nahh not tonight. Not that im afraid to race faster cars and loose, done it before and it'll happen again, but not for anybody elses enjoyment. They had their video camera out they just wanted a reel of an LS1 goin down to one of the Saleens to back up the run with the single turbo Supra. I did some talkin around today and come to find two brothers own those two Saleens (one dark red with black Saleen rims, the other black with black rims) and both of them are deep in the 11's. Maybe some other time. (Like when i get a 150 shot or somethin :D ). Anywho it was a rare night indeed....hope i get a few more of those here soon. Peace.
SilverSS 09-30-2002, 09:59 AM 11's?!?! Shit man, that would of been one hell of a Video for them! I say me and you slap some superchargers on our cars, do a few other minor mods, and you and I slap those Saleens around for awhile! You think with a SC we would be able 2?
Phanta-Z 09-30-2002, 02:34 PM LOL would be nice just to have the spare change to "slap a blower on". :D The full background, since you seem interested, is these two brothers have plenty of cash to play with and they deal in nothing but Saleens, buying them, building them and then selling them. The black one was a beast in its own right from what i hear but that red one.....it was scary. I mean there were no less than 6 blown cars out there, and when he got within 100 yds of where we were you could all but hear a pin drop compared to the sound emenating from under his hood. I mean i was afraid to walk in front of it while it was running for fear of loosing my shirt to the force of the suction. Ive never heard a car that sounded like that. A good frined of mine used to live next door to these guys, and despite my not knowing it at the time they are sort of the local holy grail of street racers. Nobody generally has the power (or $$$ really) to whip up on them. Many a very fast car has backed down from races with them. It was a treat to get to see them out there and up close. But regardless, just for shits and giggles, me and you would need more than just a blower strapped on to run low low 11's or on into the 10s. Head work, a few tweaks in the bottom end (as in some forged stuff), all the bolt ons, full fuel system upgrade, full drivetrian reworking, and a nasty blower and that would get you there. :evil2 Someday. Till then....Peace.
SilverSS 09-30-2002, 09:26 PM Yeah for sure I am intrested, I love those big bad V8's turning out such crazy power! Man I wish me and you had the kind of $$$ to go and "whip up on them". Man that would be bad ass, two Camaro's pullin up and spakin the shit out of these two "holy grails" I can imagine how good it would be walking these guys! And video taped, lol! Like you said Someday, it will happen!
SilverStreak 10-01-2002, 09:17 AM Nice kills, great stories! :buttrock
If I had an LS1, I'd do the heads, cams, etc and skip the s/c- that car doesn't really need it. I think those LPE kits promise like 400+ rwhp and 400+ rwtq, all N/A...
SilverSS 10-01-2002, 09:57 AM Yeah, I'll be doing alot of work to my car in spring, around the same time I get myself a M3, either E30 or E36 I am leaning towards the E36, as you can tell I am expecting quite a lil sum of money in spring :devillook
I will skip the SC for sure, but I will do alot of other work on my SS.
Phanta-Z 10-01-2002, 11:00 PM I have to agree with Dave here. A heads/cam LS1 will roll with ~420 dead reliable rwhp on tap. A lil shot of the squeeze (say 125 maybe) for the big dogs and you have waayy better than 500 rwhp if you need it. Thats likely the route i will take...but it wont be by next spring. :( I'll have my day though. Peace.
SilverSS 10-02-2002, 07:03 AM I will do the heads and the cams no questions. I will also stick an exhaust just for the look and sound. The SubFrame C. are on. I will do my sound system this weekend. And by next summer, I will be ready to rip it up :buttrock :evil2
SilverStreak 10-02-2002, 10:51 AM yeah, the LS1 does not need boost. If I had a 4.6 Mustang, it needs boost...
