A legal way to drive without a front license plate in MA... call the RMV and tell them that your front plate must have come off this winter and that you need to order a new one ($10). they will send you another registration that says you are allowed to drive without a front plate until you receive your new one. the new one takes - get this - 12 to 18 weeks to be delivered. that's a whole season!
and even when you have your new plate, you still have the registration ('hall pass') that says you can drive w/o the front plate. the po-po (the police) will have no idea if you actually received your plate or not.
i've been driving w/o the front plate for quite a while now. miraculously, i've never been stopped for it. just thought i would share my tricks of the trade

I had mine off for a long while, but I got nervous about it and decided to put it back on to avoid the unwanted attention.

I've been driving without my front plate for about 15 years.

Of course, my plate is one of those green-on-white ones that only came as a single. :D

Seems like a lot of work to run without a front plate :) Plus it still gives them an excuse to pull you over....

if you have a green and white plate then your all set :)

unfortunately, they no longer issue those and are trying to phase them off of the road if you need new plates. I've been running a single new plate for about 6 months now with no problems.... we'll see if that changes with tints on top of that.

I wonder how the cops would feel about a European plate w/ my Mass plate #s on it for the front?

damn it why didnt i think of this when i had my japanese plate for my Civic. I rocked it one day and a statey stopped me on the way to the meet . luckily he was cool once he saw it was a crowd of us going to the meet and let me go.

But I might actually do this within the next 2 weeks or so, hopefully I dont forget

The officer would have every right to give you a ticket. A German license plate isn't legal unless the car was registered in Germany and driving over here temporarily.

I always drive without a front plate. Only problem I ever had was when I went in for inspection. They made me put the front plate on... I took it off again before I left the parking lot :stickoutt

When I went for inspection I showed them that there wasn't a place to fasten it to the bumper, I got the person out and showed him. So he said just throw it on the dash :)

If they are looking for an excuse they can pull you over.

So, you need to say it fell off.

I am gonna use this when my 323i goes back on the road as I hate the look of a front license plate on the e21 BBS front spoiler.
