Hi to all,Just abit about my self, i have been driving BMW's for 6 years now and now i am hooked, my 1st was a 325 sport, 2nd a 635csi highline, brilliant motor so i got another, and now i have a e34 m5 and a mint m535 which only comes out when the suns out ( not very often in this part of the world ), i had a 730 also which i really miss as it was a auto.

I have seen a lovely 8 series with 110,000 miles and the car is mint, its the 840 4ltr version, please could you help with a few things, i heard the 4ltr is not so relaible as the 4.4 is this true? and what do i need to look for in these motors. Any help will be much appreciated. TTFN

Hi

According to the world, the V8 problem only existed in the US. High sulphur fuels were the norm in the eastern and central US. I had a dying Nicasil V8 in my 740 at less than 100,000 miles. My west coast 840 has a "Perfect" original motor at 143,000 miles.

A leakdown test is in order when you get serious.

A quick test is while running in gear (foot on the brakes of course), Air Con on also and with the drivers door fully open. Watch the end of the fully open drivers door and if it is shaking up and down the engine has a vacuum leak. There are several possible causes for this but a dying Nicasil motor is the big one.

Pulling the last 2 spark plugs on the nearside can be definitive too. If they are oily plan on a new motor. (BTW that is the passenger side for those reading this looking for LHD cars)
