Hi All

I had to put new rotors (front and rear) on my 97 840 to pass inspection.

It seems to me (I did not drive it much before.. so I am not sure) that the brakes are not as good.
There seems to be a lower pedal and more fade than i would expect form this caliber car. It brakes more like my wifes ford.

Iwant brakes that are going to "put me thru the windshield".

I don't race or anything, i am just talking about stop and go traffic around the city beltway.

anyway, i see Bav Autosports has a bem (ben)bro kit for larger wheels
.
1. I am moving up to 18's so no problem there, however, do any other mods need to be done? why won't they fit stock 16?

2. are these race application, or are they good for street use? I just want something that is going to greatly enhance my present situation for daily commute driving?

3. has anyone used these, do they make a big difference?

4. does anyone have any other ideas, kits they have used, supply houses, etc?

any input greatly appreciated

rick

Hi

You already have the "Big Brake Kit" with a Brembo 4 piston aluminum caliper in the front. All 840s do stock.

From your description and having just changed rotors I would suggest the following.

Check the pentosin level in the black canister with the hand knob under the hood. SPECIAL PROCEDURE -- With the engine off, pump the brakes until the are really hard and don't get any harder--Count the pushes--Should be about 20.

Now you can check the pentosin level in the canister. It should be 1/2" from the top. If it is any color than very pale green, particularlyif it shows any red color it needs to be flushed and replaced with the proper Pentosin. ATF or power steering fluid will eventually damage the system and it performs poorly anyway.

Top up or Refill with Pentosin 11 only!

If that level is ok then bleeding the brake system would be next. A complete fluid change should be done every two years anyway to purge the trapped moisture and crud from the system.

Remember that there is an inside and an outside bleeder on the front calipers. Missed that myself once:(
