I believe that auto glass is covered under comprehensive insurance in Massachsuetts. Has anyone had their insurance company replace their glass? What is the critera to have a pane replaced?

I'm just wondering for two reasons:

1) The rear defroster in my E30 doesn't work because the grid is totally cracked and open-circuited. I tried fixing it with silverpaint, but it's just too far gone. I was thinking about creating some rear window damage and having the glass (and defroster grid) replaced. Any experience?

2) I'm looking at older, used Grand Cherokees. One of them has a badly cracked rear window. Is replacement really as easy as just calling Giant glass and it's replaced with no out-of pocket expenses?

Unfortunately for you, neither of those scenarios are a possibility. As far as I know, the comprehensive insurance only covers forward-facing glass. So I suppose if you had glss headlights, those would be covered. But sadly, rear windows are not. :(

Had a cracked windshield replaced a year or so ago, insurance paid for it, no out of pocket. And yeah, Giant glass. Don't know about rear-facing windows. Check with your carrier for specific coverage.

You could, of course, always claim vandalism, but gotta be careful doing stuff like that. Fraud is such an ugly word...:nono

Hey, I'll smash your window for you. The rules are:

I must know your address.
You won't know when I'm gonna break it, but rest assured probably when there's a threat of rain.
I may/will sulk around your property to "scope it out." I might tap on random windows on your house with a stick to see what happens.
Random trim pieces inside your E30 may/will be missing. You got a cracked dash?!
I will put my dishes in your free dishwasher. I'll collect them later when I collect my $35 fee for breaking your window. Personal checks not accepted.

Just kidding. There is a thing called "glass insurance" on my policy that covers ALL windows, not just the windshield, and it was $50 a year.

You can get a used piece of glass for not that much. Prob like $50. And I don't think the rear window uses adhesive, just the weatherstrip...

And yeah, Giant glass.
