View Full Version : Any of you yokels live in/near Brunswick?
Mikey52 03-07-2006, 10:52 AM I need to get out of this state. I work in Tysons right now and would like to buy a house (SFH if I can). My problem is I cant possibly afford anything near the beltway on the MD side. On the other hand, it looks like Brunswick (and surrounding areas) has very affordable housing and the commute would be around 1.5 hours. Places like this (http://www.realtor.com/FindHome/HomeListing.asp?snum=25&locallnk=yes&frm=bymap&mnbed=0&mnbath=0&mnprice=0&mxprice=300000&js=off&pgnum=3&fid=so&stype=&mnsqft=&mls=xmls&areaid=84293&poe=realtor&ct=Brunswick&st=MD&sbint=&vtsort=&sorttype=&typ=1&typ=2&typ=4&x=56&y=7&sid=06437DC1E0DDC&snumxlid=1055786220&lnksrc=00002) look great. I can deal with having a longish commute again if I own my own place and get the fcuk out of this state.
Thoughts?
ZUUD BYE 03-07-2006, 11:00 AM I know the feeling, I'm a tax refugee myself.. I got out in '91 to WVA. Houses were cheap back then, work across from Dulles airport on rt28. About 50 min in the AM and 60 to 80 min in the PM. Brunswick is maybe 15'ish miles for where I am in Shannondale just over the tax line and off rt 9. Don't know what houses are going for over there, but to me they all seem to be way too expensive, avg new house cost in Jefferson county is close to $400K in a subdivision that was a farm field or orcuard 6 years ago. Good luck.
Mikey52 03-07-2006, 12:33 PM How do you like it out there? I would not be against moving into WV (despite the stigma ;) ) and searching under Charles Town brings up some reasonably priced homes. WV doesnt have any crazy car laws, do they? How about emissions and inspections?
Biggins 03-07-2006, 06:23 PM I'm living in Hagerstown now as I have all my life. :mad My parents' house has gone waaaaaaay up in value in the past 5 years. I was hoping to live closer to DC, but I'm waiting to see if I'll be working in WV or Fredneck or keep on substitute teaching. Property in WV eastern panhandle has been skyrocketing too though.
I think you're from the Fredneck area, but I would not recommend the commute you know well about... I was commuting Hagerstown to Rosslyn everyday for a 4.5 month period which was NOT fun.

Oh, hell no. You are correct in that I used to live with my parents in Mt. Airy. I commuted to DC, Rosslyn, and Ft. Belvoir over a period of 2.5 years...it sucked.
It is really sounding like Charles Town is the place for me. :)

Mr. Maboomba 03-07-2006, 11:12 PM Any of you yokels live in/near Brunswick?
The question alone is laughable :rofl At home, I live around here:

Brunswick is just so out there. Remove at least two teeth and buy one four-wheeler before moving in.

How do you figure Charles Town is going to be a better commute than Mt. Airy? They'd both bite if heading for No. Va.
PrestoMB 03-07-2006, 11:36 PM If I were you I would go to WV. I live in Fredneck and our house which was originally around 225K is now closer to 600k thats in about 5 years time. Traffic is starting to get bad and its one hell of a drive every moring into DC or Nova, it takes my mom about 4 hours a day just out of travel time:eyecrazy . Also Brunswick is still kind off backwoods but things are starting to pick-up over there aswell with Point of Rocks and all. I think your best bet is WV things are still relativly cheap and I heard taxes arnt as bad out there. And of course the best thing if your a car enthusiast is that A) your closer to Summit Point and B) as far as I know they have no emmisions which means you can put a track pipe on everything:stickoutt :buttrock :redspot . Good Luck w/ whatever you do and keep us posted on what you decide.

Because I have to take 270 and 495 if I live in Mt. Airy. :) Also, I find 56 homes in my price range in CT, I find 6 in Mt. Airy.
A guy in my Evo club lives in CT and commutes to Tysons and he says it takes him about 1:15-1:30. I can live with that.
Mikey, I showed my mom what the Evo looks like. She said, "I don't like it when cars have such huge wings." I told her, "That's what we call rice". :laugh
Hope I helped. :)

Didn't that confuse her though? She was probably like "but your car doesn't have a big wing and it's rice." :dunno
Nomadic Logic 03-08-2006, 01:51 PM Nobody lives in or near Brunswick except for a few characters out of Deliverance.
I live in Hagerstown and work in Frederick. If you're looking to spend high 200 to low 300k, you can get a townhouse in Frederick....that's about it for civilization.

ANYWAY!:rolleyes Mikey, do you plan on staying at your current job for a few years to come? If so, I think buying a house is a good idea. If not, I would continue to rent for a little longer. :dunno
The house you linked us to looks nice, especially for a first home!
