View Full Version : Strictly German
qidm67 03-06-2006, 01:36 AM I'm going to Strictly German pretty soon to get a black rear passenger side door. They want a 250.00 which is pretty high, I have not talked to Bobby yet and do not know him. I will be meeting him for the first time. Anyone know him, do you guys recommend anything. I want a bit cheaper. I believe 100.00 is the average price from anyone that is not a junkyard. Thanx guys.
FAST5 03-06-2006, 02:46 AM My experience with Strictly German was met with an overpriced estimate as well. They wanted $150 for a passenger side window for my 2002 when a yard in California sold them for $40 each.
Guess who I went with? :)
aMiR M3 03-06-2006, 03:04 AM sold me bent and useless bumper shocks once for 50 bux...

i got my alarm from there... wouldn't go there otherwise :)
that sux... get your money back?
///Mpressive 03-06-2006, 01:40 PM Bobby is a good guy overall. If you know what the part is worth and are upfront with him man to man, he will be reasonable with the price. Super lowballers need not apply, but he will deal with you in a fair manner. He does have rent to pay. I have no loyaly to him either way, I shop for the best deal like everyone else. But, if you ask him to bend on a price for a product that is readily available other places, he may have a good price for you.
He has been cool about taking returns for stuff that didn't work right or helping me pull parts, not to mention he has given me some great deals in the past. I actually still owe him a set of rims from a trade that are in my garage. :stickoutt He put me on the honor system. Guess I need to do my part and take them over to him soon. ;-)
qidm67 03-06-2006, 04:02 PM Well I asked through the internet for the door and it was 250. I think 100 is a really good fair price since almost everyone with a door wants a 100. Maybe if i met Bobby and told him about other places he be cool, no?
Robstah 03-06-2006, 04:12 PM When e-mailing him, add that you are a BMWCCA member. That tends to help with the price a bit. ;) So far, he has been extremely fair with his prices to me. Also, door panels are a bit of a rare thing there, they disappear so fast, hence the price range he is giving you. It's all about supply and demand.
///Mpressive 03-06-2006, 05:12 PM Well I asked through the internet for the door and it was 250. I think 100 is a really good fair price since almost everyone with a door wants a 100. Maybe if i met Bobby and told him about other places he be cool, no?
That's the problem, you asked throught the internet. And you probably didn't 'talk' to Bobby, it might have been one of his assistants who don't negotiate prices. You need to call him or go meet him. Bring with you copies of the classified ads for much cheaper doors as leverage if you have to. Then, tell him what you are willing to pay. You may get a deal. Who knows?
Also, if you have other avenues where cheaper prices are plentiful, I am not sure why you are still considering buying from Bobby. I mean, go for the cheapest one.:confused
EDIT: also try ebay, this link is from Vines Parts, which I would still consider local (for high shipping cost parts at least)

Yea most of the places have been out of state private people.
tommelton 03-07-2006, 06:53 AM Yea most of the places have been out of state private people.
Think about it, anything from private individual is normally less expensive than from a business. If you buy a used car in a private sale it is normally less expensive than buying from a used car dealer. But, there are plusses to the used car dealer...if you have a problem, they will normally work with you for a short length of time to correct the problem (reputable dealers anyway).
If you buy from an individual, you are typically 100% on your own.

True. Bobby gives a 30 day money back guarantee with any part you get from there.
qidm67 03-10-2006, 09:35 PM I went to strictly-german today. I think Bobby has been one of the biggest Jerks that I have met with in the Autoservice field. First I checked out this M3/4 with my brother. One of bobbys assistant comes out and is like "don't touch that, thats Bobby's car." Than I asked the same assistants for the door, later he said he was Bobbys brother. His brother showed me a few doors, they looked good. Than I asked how much it was, his brother said 150.00 but he wanted to double check so he asked Bobby and came back with a price of 250. I told his brother usually they are 150, so his brother told me to I can talk with Bobby. So I go into his office and find out there are four guys sitting down at desk talking. So I say "Hi I'm looking for the door." So this guy (Bobby) says yea its 250. I'm say "I think vines has it for 150." After Bobby and his buddy start to taunt. Bobby and his freind start saying:
You can goto alabama and get one
Yea goto to the border (his dirty nasty german/russian freind who was talking and eating with food coming out his mouth, this guy was a pig)
Tell David I said hi (David at Vines auto I guess)
Yea you can drive down there and get one, not here
After that they totally ignored, I said said "thanx guys" and left.
I would have expected he would at least told me why or negotiated. He was rude as hell. From what I read on this forum, I thought he was a nice guy, BUT NO. A-HOLE. Oh yea the place is a shithole(mind my lang.) even though it is a junkyard
I might end up going there and ask 200 for the door in a couple weeks.
Robstah 03-10-2006, 09:51 PM Good job pointing out his number one competitor. The way you presented yourself gave Bobby a bad feeling, so he rejected you. Oh yeah, if you think the place is a shithole, then you really need to sell your bimmer for a civic, or start taking your car into the stealership and pay 700 dollars per door panel.

You guys told me to tell about diff. deals, no? No I will not sell my bimmer for a civic. How dare you!
M3Bill 03-10-2006, 10:03 PM The guy sounds like an ass. Take your business elsewhere.
krisko 03-10-2006, 10:15 PM If you can get the door in Alabama for $100 then why wouldn't you go down there?
qidm67 03-10-2006, 10:49 PM If you can get the door in Alabama for $100 then why wouldn't you go down there?
Its a 3 hour drive. To strictly german its only like 20-30 min. If i need to return it, I can drive 20-30 min. If the paint does not match, then it be a problem going to Alabama back.
I'll go to bama and get your door for $100.
Matt

Thanks Matt, but I don't know if it will match or not. With strictly german I can exchange and crap. But with bama its too far. Thanks for the offer, you sound pretty cool, if you are not being sarcastic, i think your not btw.

Reliable issues with your shipping/handling???
pain in returning the door, since its too far

go on a 30 min drive to return the door
why would I do that??????????????????
What I am trying to tell you is that for the $100 difference in price, you could have Vines ship you the $150 door, and still have enough price difference left to ship it back to them if it's wrong.
I don't actually have any interest in driving to AL.

If you think they're such "a-holes," then why are you intent on still doing business with them? Learn to vote with your wallet. Support the businesses that earn your money by treating you well.

That's exactly what I was thinking...I'd rather buy a door elsewhere for $400 than go back on my hands and knees to Strictly German (what the OP would essentially be doing). They treat you like dogshit and you're going back for seconds?
My experience with SG has been good...Bobby's helped me out a few times.
qidm67 03-11-2006, 03:18 PM I don't know guys. I don't want to marry the guy. I just want a door. I guess I'm going to end up buying a door from their anyways. You guys are right.

qidm67 03-23-2006, 08:26 PM Ok guys I'm going on saturday to try this again. I'm bringing 200.00 cash with me, Bobby said it was 250.00 last time I was there.
Do you think 200 will make the purchase happen?
How should I propose this deal? (Yo man whats up lemme get this door for 200 beans)
Should I bring 250.00?
Should I call before and ask?
Thanx guys.
G. P. Burdell 03-23-2006, 08:55 PM I don't understand why you still want to do business there if you felt you were mistreated the last time. Going back could seem like an act of desperation to them.

I don't get the Clyde part, the movie orangutan clyde???
Where did the 300 come from?
This thing is escalated too far fo no reason. If all the above is true.

True. But uhhhhhhh I need a new door to replace my old door that has a big dent in it. Where else can I get one? Private or dealer are my only options. Business should be Business, not anything personal.

Serious - yes.
Clyde - yes, the movie orangutan. As for scrapping the bimmer - where do you think all his parts cars come from (that is a joke).
$300 - likely now his minimum amount to sell the door to YOU. Face it, you have bad mouthed his business, and his people. You would be lucky now if he sells you anything, anytime.
He does not have to sell to you. It is his business and a single $250 door is not going to break him. While I certainly don't consider Bobby what this conjurs up, but, the Seinfeld Soup Nazi comes to mind...."No door for you".
Like I said - good luck.

Nothing personal huh. Let me guote a few words you have used in this thread:
"I think Bobby has been one of the biggest Jerks"
"his dirty nasty german/russian freind"
"this guy was a pig"
"He was rude as hell"
"A-HOLE"
"the place is a shithole"
Right - nothing personal.

G. P. Burdell 03-23-2006, 09:38 PM Business should be Business, not anything personal.
If you think you can only get that door from one vendor in this car-addicted town, think again.
As they say, let your fingers do the walking.
http://yp.bellsouth.net
Business should be Business, not anything personal.
A vendor earns my continued support by providing ALL of the following:
1. Quality products
2. Competitive prices
3. Friendly, courteous, and competent customer service
If I feel that I am being treated poorly by a vendor, even if the price is right, I don't reward that behavior. I'll take my business to someone who appreciates me as a customer.
I have not yet had the opportunity to deal with Strictly German, but I do know that Bobby has many satisfied customers. This thread has not changed my perception of SG at all.
Good luck.

Yes I can see what you are saying. I did kind of bad mouth his business, but YES he and his freind did insult me for no apparent reason, maybe because I brought up the word "Vines," or who know, maybe he was having a bad day, moment, second, hour ????? What would you have done, if you said 150 and two guys started to taunt you and crap, and you said thank you and walked away, I doubt any nice things. Maybe I should not go this weekend.

I never wanted or want to burn this bridge, I want to improve and rebuild if it has been burnt down.
Ok he stated 250 in front of me and 250 through email. "would" he take, he should since -50 would be a price match or whatever you want to call it. From what I see it he has dozens of doors, I don't think many people buy them anyways. Thank you from seeing it from my side.
Now I don't know why but G. P. Burdell seems to be some kind of Strictly-german undercover agent. J/K, but how do you know Bobby is aware of this thread.
This is the real deal, I'm a senior in H.S. I love BMW's and my car. I'm an enthusiast and don't like imperfections in my car. Majority of people on Bf.c love their cars. I got into a little accident several months back with a dent in my door and rocker panel, so finally when I had the money and time I went to SG and inquired about the door, the owner and assisstant insult and taunt me about my offer, I say thanks and goodbye. After this I post my experience and feelings, now this turns into some ridicoulous out of hand situations. I was really happy and optimistic that day I went, my brother kept on nagging me to go and said he will make up the difference, but after I came out of the office I felt shitty. I even woke up early on the saturday.
You know how think something will happen a certain way but it totally happens the opposite way, and your dreams shatter?

If Bobby doesn't read Bimmerforums himself, he surely has friends and/or customers who do. You can't mention a business here and expect that the owner won't find out about it.
You know how think something will happen a certain way but it totally happens the opposite way, and your dreams shatter?
Yes. Welcome to the real world. :)
tommelton 03-23-2006, 10:20 PM I figured you were young. As you age, you will acquire wisdom. Consider this a learning experience.
One other thing I saw in your earlier posts, you mentioned getting a door, taking it, comparing colors, taking it back if it not match, exchanging it, etc. He tells you $250, you throw a distant competitor in his face, he then taunts you. You taunted him with a competitor, you started it. You really think you can do that then even consider taking a part back to exchange?
It is one thing to negotiate, haggle, dicker, whatever you want to call it, but it is another to attempt a lowball offer with a competitor.
I was young and foolish once (likely still foolish)...here is a story.
Someone older that I knew was having some work done on his car. The shop did a poor job. I told this person to take the car back and make them fix the issue. I said demand that it get fixed right. I was indignant, they wronged him.
He responded - no. He would not go back, they had the chance to do it right the first time, they screwed it up. Why take the car back again for them to screw it up more? I could not argue with that logic.
If you go back to Bobby, ask to see him, be humble, be nice, but don't kiss his ass. Know what you are willing to spend, and stick to that. Explain your situation. Being upfront can go a long way.

Well from what I know I think he said you can return items and many people have posted that they have returned/exchanged items.
Ok so I told him about a price from a competitor, its called business, its called competition, its called the world outside SG, If I was running a business I would want to match prices. I would not start harrassing the customer just because I owned wal-mart, and the customer said k-mart has a 40' plasma for a cheaper price. Nonetheless he was mean.
I have sold numerous things on Ebay, from computer video cards to CNC manufacturing machines, yes people do mention they can find it cheaper, but I never and would never tell him/her to take it or go somewhere else. I do get lowball offers, but I respect the customer and tell him/her my price.
Lets try this experiment.
You come over my house because I'm selling something you want. I will be sitting with my three freinds eating/talking/socializing. You introduce your self and ask something. I start to taunt you with my freinds, you say bye and leave. How would you feel after that?

I am not in any way implying that this is your fault. It sounds like you got treated like shit, you told it like it was, and now your have to deal with the circumstances. It is what it is. You should not care at all about what they think of you, and they clearly do not care about what you think of them.
It's time to move on and find the door somewhere else.
Of course all this is my fault. I did all this.

That's pretty much how it looks from over here.
If someone you'd like to do business with won't negotiate on price, your options are 1) Buy item at given price 2) Don't. You chose 2, and made it so there's no going back by posting here.
And GP made a good point... there are always other options.

tommelton 03-23-2006, 11:18 PM Lets try this experiment.
You come over my house because I'm selling something you want. I will be sitting with my three freinds eating/talking/socializing. You introduce your self and ask something. I start to taunt you with my freinds, you say bye and leave. How would you feel after that?
You started the situation with a lowball offer and said you could go to Vines. He said go. Your experiment should read as follows:

You come over my house because I'm selling something you want. I will be sitting with my three freinds eating/talking/socializing. You introduce your self and ask something that is effectively a kick in the balls. I start to taunt you with my freinds, you say bye and leave. How would you feel after that?
Again - based on my age and experience - I would not kick you in the balls. Hell - you wanted something from HIM - he did not want anything from you. You instigated it - he finished it. You left feeling like a whipped puppy. You lashed out on the internet.
Sounds like one of those "priceless" commercials...

qidm67 03-23-2006, 11:20 PM I have decided what to do. I will be a man and go over to SG and handle it like a man, instead of typing here all the he say he did B.S. It ain't over till it's over. I will inquire about a door, he will say his price, I'll pay either 200 or 250, if he says over 250, then PEACE. I can just sit here and not know the outcome. I'm pretty sure whatever news got to Bobby about this thread had come motivation and exaggeration to the information, NO DOUBT.

Bobby can read. Bobby has internet access. Bobby has the link. No inflated comments, no motivation.
Smells like $350 to me.

CLARIFICATION: I never said I could go to Vines, I said "I think it's 150 at Vines." Thats all. Forget about the experiment.

qidm67 04-04-2006, 12:12 AM I went to strictly-german today with some of my buddies. We looked around for a door. We compared a few doors and bought one for 250.00. I decided just to pay the cost upfront. Everybody and Bobby were really nice about everything. I'm happy with my experience at SG, I plan on going there every now and then. I also met this cool bodyshop guy, Ivan, that told me about my rockerpanel repair. The door is not too shabby but alot better than before. Bobby was really cool and nice too.
:) :) :) :)
Bad news: The door was sitting on my car, my car was parked infront of that real estate billboard, there were really strong winds and it was possible for it to fall, so I run to my car and reverse, next thing I know a door falls, I get out of my car , now there are some nasty deep scratches on my fender and front passenger door SHIT!!!.

Someone called?
qidm67 - no offense, but you're seriously acting like a tool. Glad you paid $250 for a door you think you could have gotten for $100 after being mistreated and ridiculed. I hope some balls grow out before your next visit.

You are wrong. I don't know if I could have bought a door for $100 or not, I was in the accident last november, so it's been almost 6 months since I have been looking for one. I got tired of looking for so I gave into the junkyard. I tried posting on craigslist and Bf.c classifieds for a door, either they were too far or some mysterious condition of the door. I think there was some kind of misunderstaning lasttime I went there, when I went this time it was the opposite. As a BMW enthusiast, I was desperate to fix my damage, not desperate for some new freinds at SG. And for the balls thing, I think my balls are big enough, I don't think you know me well enough to say that. Have you ever been to SG?
JeffCupino 04-14-2006, 12:41 PM i know this thread is old... but i have to resurrect it. I just bought an 11 button OBC about two months ago through ebay from Strictly-German and the supposedly perfect obc i was gonna receive did not even work. Status screen was shot and clock was also non-functional. Personally i would no do business with them. I recieved a defective item and he had the audacity to leave me negative feedback on my account and i didnt even leave negative feedback for him. Just to give you guys the heads up...

I think you experience might have differed if you were to do a walk-in.
Has anyone had any experience with body work or mechanical work (tranny swap)???
///Mpressive 04-14-2006, 07:34 PM I've had him do plenty of mechanical work for me before I got my garage. But, I wouldn't have him do work on a show car or anything you're trying to keep perfect. Garage work is not their top priority, selling parts is. That is straight from his mouth. He does keep the price low and can think budget minded if you ask him to.
I would take my cars there again.

I talked to one of his body shop guys, he gave me a quote to fix something that was basically 4x less than places around Gwinnett. I was like WOAH thats great!! I guess they paint as well right?
