View Full Version : Anyone over 50 still driving an M3?
E46M3maybe 03-04-2006, 03:38 PM I might be turning 50 soon (denial is a river in Egypt), and I love how the outgoing E46 M3 looks. What a gorgeous beast! I also like the taut suspension, precise handling, braking power, the venerable - and final - sweet revving S54 engine. I want one.
Is there anyone on the boards that is 50 & up, and had
an M3 as a daily driver?
Just curious . . . .
elh0102 03-04-2006, 04:57 PM Yep, turned 50 a few years back. Love my M3 ('05 ZCP). Although I don't drive mine every day, the M3 would be fine as a daily driver. It's not so low as to cause problems getting in and out, the trunk is very adequate and, it's easy to toss a briefcase or jacket in the back seat. Unless you have come to prefer the Lexus experience, you will have no problem at all. I should add I guess, I have always driven cars with stiff suspensions, including sports cars with lower seating, so my opinion may be a bit biased.

lazyass349 03-04-2006, 06:12 PM my dad is 55 and bought his e46 just 2 years ago. Before that he was driving his e36 M3, and just last year he even added an E30 m3. The e46 is his daily driver and he loves it as that
m34usc 03-04-2006, 09:16 PM Bought an 05 M3 for my 50th birthday. I also own a 1973 Triumph TR6. My kids refer to it as my teenager car:)
cowboy bebop 03-05-2006, 01:14 AM picked my 03 up as my 50th as well.
had an E30 earlier, and and many other BMWs over the years, but decided that It was time for another M3 and 50 was as good an excuse as any.

B.Watts 03-07-2006, 12:58 AM The fact that there are literally kids driving around in M3's is far more surprising (and terrifying to me) than the idea that a 50 year old, with an established career and finances, would be driving such an automobile.
Patrón 03-07-2006, 06:00 PM my brother's boss is probably in his mid 60's and is on this 2nd e46M.

You took the words out of my mouth.

Hey, I'm only 24 and I've got an E46... I also just bought an '89 E30... I'm a bimmerhead; can't help it.... Over the past few years(no pun), I've aquired two E36 M3, one NA and one turbo'd, two e30's, and this '04 M3... I love them and always will. It doesnt matter what age you are, just how well u can handle the ///M...
BTW... B. Watts u from Charlotte??? Maybe I've seen you around!!
Detonate 03-09-2006, 02:56 AM When I'm over 50 I'll be driving an M5. (hopefully)

Hey, I bought my first E36 M3 when I was 18 and started racing BMW's at 20. It still scares me the number of kids running around in E46 M3's. The fact that you are 24 and own 5 BMW's is a bit insane though. Do you ever get them out to the track?

Look for a big gray truck. I don't drive a BMW on the road right now. Gotta drive the tow vehicle so that I can get the race car to the track.
831streeter 03-16-2006, 09:37 PM You are young at 50. Buy the e46. Joint the BMW club. Run in this yrs autoX. Next year track the car. It's an introduction to a new interest. And get the color you really want. Good Luck
TonyC2639 03-16-2006, 10:07 PM An M3 is perfect for an over 50 motorhead. I'm 52 and drive a 525i but an M3 is next on my list. My first car was a '62 nova and man would she fly. I have had the need for speed ever since. With the M3 you get speed, style AND class. Perfect for an old teenager!

Ummm... let's see.. got the '99 M-Coupe when I was, ummm.. 52 I believe. Got the E36/M3C about 15 months ago, and the E46/M3C this Monday, so I guess you could say I'm well over 50 and I'm not only "still" driving one - I am still buying them.
You grow old when you outgrow toys - luckily - I've never done that.

deilenberger 03-16-2006, 11:55 PM When I'm over 50 I'll be driving an M5. (hopefully)Funny - that was my choice this time. I drove both. The M3 is a smile maker for me - and a hoot to drive. The E39/M5 was... yawn.. I think it's too civilized.

I had the M5 and, frankly I didn't think that much of the chassis set up...it did have a great engine, though.
The M3 is a much better package as well as the better driver's car............that's why the M5 is gone!
adamr 03-18-2006, 08:02 AM i would like to know who is the youngest m3 owner here? ... i was 23 when i got mines .. had a mcoupe before and a 98 M3 4 door 3.2 ...
and likewise who is the oldest M3 owner ...
rmani 03-18-2006, 01:28 PM There's a lot of 50+ yr old owners driving M3s, I doubt you'll find most on here since message boards tend to have a younger crowd on them.
I know people as young as 16 having brand new m3s bought for them as presents, but I'd recon most driver's on here are in their mid 20s to mid 30s.
StXBombers 03-25-2006, 01:41 PM My dad is 54 and drives an E46 M3 'Vert. Watching him drive away, he's like a big kid with a huge bald spot.
