It is a nice day Sunday, and I had the T-tops out looking for a street race. After a while I come across a clean white E36 M3 driven by a younger guy. We sit at a light, him behind a car in the other lane, and I wonder if he hears the cam loping? I notice that he is on Pirelli Asimmetrico 's. When the light turns green, I take it up to ~25 easy, then stand on it (resulting in a bark from the Nittos) so he knows I am interested. Once traffic clears, we are coming up on a big sweeping turn to the left. He takes the jump on the outside though, and I have no choice but to give chase. We run around the curve, my Nittos howling at one point. I pull past him, and by the end of the curve he was a couple car lengths back. Pretty impressive for street tires, but probably a stupid place for us to race. A little while later he lines up again, this time about 60 mph in a straight line. I hold it in second, then we took an even start. I quickly jump on him, and in third I put some serious distance on him, probably 4+ cars from 60-105. When he turned off a few blocks later, he waved, and I returned the gesture.

Sup man. I recognize your call sign from over at LS1.com. I post both here and there pretty regular (uncctman23 over there). You'll like it here. Not as much hp flyin around (but youd be suprised what some of these blown bimmers can muster up) but the crowd is so much more mature. You wont see too many trolls here. Anywho, welcome. Seems theres been a rash of LS1 guys comin over here lately. Im old hat to this place, but the more the merrier. I posted on this kill over at LS1 so just sufice to say good kill and been there a time or two myself. Peace.

I have seen your screen name. I hope most of our ls1 brother have been behaving. I just like to see how the other half live, and I really like the M3's.

LOL, you guys say you like M3's, even though you always end up whaling on us. :D

Anyway, welcome to the board, 98_1LE.

Hey i like M3s a lot. Hell whats not to like? And fear not....what we do, in stock trim at least, to the E46 M3s is far from dishn out a "whaling", maybe a love tap to the tune of fractional or at best singular car lengths. :D Theres much to be said about the E36s as well....and theres a few on this board that can more than hold their own with an LS1.

Welcome 98_1LE ... Who cares what beer you drink as long as you can have a good time while drinking it. I've had positive outcomes so far racing Camaros(2) but I'm just waiting for that right one to hand me my (_)(_) .... I gotta say, nothing beats the tune of a V8 (except maybe a Viper V10).

Cheers,
Roman

I just wanna say that you guys are some of the cooler LS1 drivers that I have run across. A lot of the guys over at ls1.com are real pricks. I used to have a 2000 Mustang, a V6, but a stang nonetheless. I have a friend who in addition to everything else done to his car, which is far too much to list, put ZO6 heads on his 2000 SS this summer and dynoed 440 horsepower to the rear wheels. And that is without the 150 shot of the giggly stuff he runs. I'm pretty sure he won't quit till he hits 9's. The scary thing is is that he is not far off. Anyways, talk to you all later.

I agree, that is why diversity is good. Hopefully by communicating as automobile enthusiasts we can all learn to appreciate a more divese cross section of the hobby!

I'd say I've met more cool people that don't drive BMWs. I've gotten thumbs ups, gas station conversations, bumper to bumper traffic conversations with GM drivers, Subby drivers, even a Porsche driver once but the BMW drivers ain't as friendly. Actually, I'm wrong! Last weekend driving from Sacramento an E46 M3 driver and I exchanged thumbs up on the HWY. I figure it doesn't matter what car one drives, but rather their attitude (ohhh and how well they drive what they got :) ).

Peace,
Roman

I guess it depends where you are. I have been to a couple BMW CCA DE's outside of Dallas, and everyone was very nice. I have had words with a couple Porsche owners, but they get cranky when an F-body walks away from them. :dunno :buttrock

Haha,

I hear that :) Ohhh well, like I said, it's not always the car but the attitude behind the wheel.

I mean I love Bimmers, and always will, thats why I had a 318iS, so I have no reason to be a prick to anyone here! And I will be getting another bimmer before next summer. I will be getting a M3, either E30 or E36. Those cars are so fun to drive. Even if they cant keep up with my SS, they are a much more pleasent drive than thiss V8 beast.

Yes, welcome to BimmerForums, we have a good crowd here, very mature, open-minded, and just general car nuts, so enjoy your stay!

This is one of the better web boards I'm a member of...

I swear to god the entire online world consists of 14 year-olds with AOL that think they own the place. Ugh! Not so much on the car boards, but on some of the other boards I read... Prolly my fault, 'cause the other boards I read are gaming related, so what was I expecting? heheheh

Anyway, as good as this online community is, I gotta say that the living, breathing BMW owners in the Scottsdale, AZ area are - for the most part - pricks. No one returns thumbs ups, smiles, waves, anything. Nothing but freakin' Yuppies with leased cars they can't really afford! Prolly my fault, 'cause I live in the Yuppie capital of the world, so what was I expecting? hehehe

Nice kill. Not sure how good a driver the M3 guy was. Driver skill means a lot more than most people realize.
Before I had my current car I embarrassed a couple 318s and 328s with a 3sp auto '88 stock Corolla with cut springs on the street through a set of turns! I also blew past a 400+ HP Camaro on the straight at Summit Point raceway in the rain using a rented 3sp auto Neon! The Driver is a large part of the package!

Thanks for the warm welcome.

///Major Havoc - I agree that good driving wins a lot of races.
