I have 20k on my 1997 Ci.

Recently, when I "floor it" - i.e. what quick acceleration as should be easy in the V8 - the check engine light comes on and my OBD says misfire in cylinder 8, 5 and 6. my dealer cant find anything wrong! any suggestions? I was thinking about swapping the cat, but before I start dropping cash I wanted to see what other causes could be.

I agree with Wuffer. Mark those 3 coils and swap them into other positions. Then see if the error moves with the coils.

If the message does not change cylinders, then change the spark plugs. DO NOT USE PLATINUMS!! The V8 really does not like them.
