I'm in. I'm located in Atlanta, but weekends (until December) will be very bad for me, as I have to do community service up in Chattanooga until then. (Don't ask)

I've heard a couple of people recently say that they saw "trains" of six-eight M3's going around this area. I wonder how to hook up with these guys. I see all these Cali BMW's meeting ALL THE TIME, so it's about time the GA/ATL bimmers gather.

So, only weekday meetings for me until Dec. :(

sorry, punknamedjimmy...i lost connection with this site for a while...it WAS mine and the 540i was the lowest insurance on any car we own. Including my sister's vw cabrio. But i got the 323is now and its awesome

Yeah --- I heard there are some fantastic roads up near Suches --- I even have directions to a road with a sign that says "Dangerous Curves Ahead" --- is this where the DTM group is going?? It's s'posed to be up past Marietta somewhere.... sounds like fun :)

Yeah, definitely, the roads up there are great. I went to Young Harris College in between Blairsville and Hiawassee for two years, and got to know the roads very well:D I still visit them once a month or so, I take the same route every time, and know every curve up there!!! It's a blast! Plus, there's never too many Mounties running around, so you can usually drive like you want to. But check to make sure you have tread and pads left first!!:nono

As for the Suches route, I've done it several times with the Porsche guys when I still had my Carrera. The roads are slammin', but be VERY VERY careful out there. I know a couple of folks who have gone off the side of the mountain and destroyed their cars and almost themselves. Also, on the weekends, the bikers are there in full force, and do LOTS of crazy passing moves in the curves; mostly blind. This is not a route to drive stupid and irresponsible on. Hate to sound like "Dad", but people have died there. The best time to drive these roads on the weekends, especially is early in the morning. Once lunchtime hits, the motorcycle and grandpa traffic there is pretty heavy, making the drive a little more frustrating.

Dude -- your tii is HOT!!! Love the look :) --- is that candy apple... um... orange? Candy orange orange? Hehehe --- it's definitely blingin' --- I really do like the car though, she looks great!!

I have been dying to get up to Suches, since I heard about those roads --- I will get up there, soon.

Thanks so much, man. The color is a custom job. The undercoat is the BMW factory Inka orange. The top layer is a PPG metallic pearl that is ridiculous in the sun. That car got photographed and featured on European Car Magazine's online site in August. I was psyched, to say the least.

For what it's worth, I'd be happy to organize and administrate a mountain drive in the near future. Anyone who wants to plan one for November let me know and maybe I'll start a post for it, or something. I'm in Lilburn, about 15-20 minutes Northeast of Atlanta. I'd also like to have a get together/unofficial car show at my house one of these days. I live in a cul-de-sac, and there would be plenty of street parking for killer rides!!!

Here is a video of me wrecking my 5.0 heading up to Helen, GA.

The camera is mounted on Paul's Green M-Coupe (you guys will see this weekend.) My buddy Jason is driving the White GTI. I pull up next to him, and he doesn't see me there, and squeezes me off the road into a ditch.

Fortunately, it was NOT off a cliff, I missed a gigantic rock by about 2 feet, the cars didn't touch, and a guy in a pickup with tow straps drove by about 30 seconds after I got out of the car. Also, my wife never found out about it!

Do me one favor though, don't harass the locals. Most will let you pass. If you ride up their ass like some city slicker, this big speed party will end.

There are no decreasing radius or off camber turns that I am aware of. I have video taped most of ALT75, GA180 and GA60 for study. The banking is very good.

There are wreaths in the trees. People do die up there.

The best thing to do is be up there about 6:30am. You have until about noon to haul a lot of ass before the SUV and Harley parade fucks everything up.

The inside lip usually has a little bit of extra asphalt patched in in case you have to run inside to avoid a gas tanker or something. Make fun of the Mustang 5.0 all you want, but if the 'Stang has Fannin county plates, be prepared have your shit packed. Those kids have driven these roads all their life. They have no qualms about getting the tail out.

There are cops up there. But not very many. I have never gotten a ticket and have hammered those roads on a BMW K75s, a Porsche 944 and now my beloved M Coupe. Just take the mentality that if you get caught, the ticket will be worth it.

Lastly, a kinda new development is bicycles. They are nice, but ride their bikes very dumb and will be in the middle of the lane. You can't blow them at 65mph because you can't see around the turns.

In the winter, the advantage is the leave fall off the trees. Easier to see if anyone is coming around the turn. I try to stay in my lane regardless, it's just a good habit. Do what you can on your lane. Start going for the best line anf you may eat a panel van or a sport bike.

Well, it was nice meeting the owners of the wopping FIVE cars that turned out yesterday.

For all of those who couldn't make it, we will be conducting a makeup meeting on November 17th at the Turner Field parking lot. That will be the Sports Car Club of America SOLOII Championship race. Be there at 8:00 AM and bring $30 to run your car...
